WHSS Goes to Auction

Somebody may want to inform them that you can't sell a "bare license"...... That's a violation of FCC rules. This station would likely have a better signal using the old 96.5 tower.

No, it isn't. Might have been at one time, but there's no reason under current rules they can't sell the license without the accompanying physical assets if that's what they want to do.

Selling a Construction Permit is much safer for the seller than selling
a license. Sell the CP and give any equipment as a gift to the buyer.

It's the CP or license that holds almost all of the value of a radio station.

I would advise the school to get a new CP even if it is only a small change.

Then, sell that CP. This would protect the school and get them their money.

Which rules are being violated by selling just a license? Considering it's done all the time.

Selling a CP instead of a licensed facility will keep the lawyers out
of the school's pockets. A lawyer can run up a legal bill that is greater
than this frequency is worth.

A crook could steal this station from the school. Our business, sadly
has a bunch of crooks.

If the school really wants to see their money, sell a Construction
Permit, not a licensed station.

Up here in NE Ohio, another high school station is about to go the way of the Dodo Bird:

The difference here is that the station here, WKTL/90.7 Struthers, will probably stay on the air after the last student signs off...they are already hooked up with school-owned but adult-run AAA station WAPS/91.3 "The Summit" in Akron, which is broadcasting on WKTL during former off-hours already...
