WHTQ

the new WHTQ: Is it just a rebranding with extra jocks?
It sounds like a more gold-bassed Classic Rock format simular to WYSP in Philly.
Think all they did was put a new slogan, and update the rock base to include some early 90's.
John

Basically all WHTQ did was rebrand itself as 96 Rock, add new liners, and tweek the music slightly. Aside from that, WHTQ is the same radio station.

Cox has been doing this at properties in other markets as well. It has apparently worked out for the better in those other markets.

i've noticed that the bone in tampa and rock 104.5 in jacks plays stuff this station won't touch. like rock plays stuff like tool and korn and some new songs as well. i noticed the bone in tampa played rockstar the other day from nickleback. surprised 96 rock did not do the same thing.... i can't remember if the bone started out like 96 rock and added the other stuff over time...

I'm really happy with the changes and I think it's a bigger change than most people realize. Gone are the snoozy classic rock songs that always made me switch the station (Kansas, Yes, Genesis, etc). The music has a much harder edge and the cuts are much deeper than before. I'm hearing Ozzy and Van Halen songs I haven't heard in a long time. While I could do without the 90s grunge (having heard this stuff way too much in college)... I do appreciate the 90s alternative they have added like Offspring and Green Day.

Austen, 104.5 in Jacksonville has morfed into what i'd call AOR. Orlando only has classic rock WHTQ and alturnative WJRR. I dont listen to JRR but from what i've heard, its left the classic rock to HTQ.

just checked the last song played for this evening - over the past 4 hours: 4 Van Halen songs, 3 Aerosmith, 3 AC/DC, 3 Led Zep --- so what exactly has changed?

i do have to give them credit. they have stopped playing the typical classic rock stuff but the repetition is still there. just about every day it seems i've heard some form of acdc or van halen. but it is nice to hear early offspring again. the station i miss is orock. now that was a station when it started out. it's too bad it went down hill in about 06 or so. i really wished someone would try something simular again but stick with it. unfortunatly my hd receiver broke i had from best buy. it was that portable receiver. but i do have orock streaming on the iphone but it's not the same.
