I don't know if they'll do this, but here's a possibility I see. KUUL's numbers, as you say, are doing the best they've done in many years. But management may look at that and feel that its taking numbers away from the Dwyer & Michaels station, since the 2 station's playlists aren't totally similar, but there's quite a bit of crossover. And let's face it, for the Clear Channel QC cluster, WLLR & the Dwyer/Michaels station (Q106) are the golden childs. So if taking away KUUL would help Q106's numbers they'll make that move.
What becomes of KUUL, then? Like you alluded to, I wouldn't be surprised the 98.9 format ends up on 101.3, and you'll be close to the 98.9 of not that long ago. You'd have Bob & Tom (which was moved from 98.9 to KUUL a few years ago) on in the morning. When's that air? 5 to 9? Then you'd have KUUL's current PD Bo become the new PD of this CHR format and do a 9 to noon like shift. Then have Manuel do noon to 3 and red hot do 3 to 6 (or you could flip those 2), and have someone else do evening and overnight.
I just don't see them letting manuel and red hot get away from them. But there has to be an air shift available for that to occur. Otherwise, I'm sure b100 would snatch them up in a heartbeat. Not sure if they'd keep the current 98.9 PD, evening person and overnight person.
A couple of questions would remain, though. What happens to KUUL's Joe Deniro? He's been there for a long time. What happens to the Illinois Sports broadcasts?
