WHUD's office of the day

Sometimes it seems like the only people who listen to WHUD are women. I say that because of the office of the day phone calls. Practically every day when Tom Furci makes his office of the day call it's always a woman who picks up the phone. Okay I get that most secretaries are female but then Furci asks her who else is in the office listening and the woman rattles off a bunch of female names. I'm sure WHUD has a large male listening audience but you would never know it from the phone calls WHUD plays.

I think you've solved your own mystery in the last sentence. The phone calls they air...are simply those that they choose to air. But yes, WHUD's audience is mostly female.

WHUD's mediabase link is pretty neat! For the record, I kind of enjoy their selections, even though I don't fit the demographic. The signal isn't well received in Kingston, although I listened to them all the time when I lived in Peekskill. Does Jim Witt still do the weather?

Not completely true.....many Hip-Hop, Alternative, Smooth Jazz, Country and Christian stations target men. So do a number of Spanish language stations. But the formats you listed are usually male demo heavy.

...and the feminization of America continues...
