Why all AM IBOC gone?

Scanning the dial this afternoon I find all of the nasty noise generators are turned off. 620, 770, 1080, 1160 all have clean sidebands. Could this be coincidence, or could some sense of sanity be coming back in style?

It is still on 620 and 770 - but it has been gone from 1080 and 1160 for a long time. I was about to note it on the DFW board when I saw your post. I applaud 1080 and 1160 for coming to their senses! Except for a few rich people and techno geeks - nobody is going to pay $300 for a BA Receptor radio. I could have a GE Superradio 3 in all rooms of the house for the cost of one Receptor.

Good move by 1160 and 1080, especally when only a few people give a damn about AM radio sounds.

Does a station have to pay a monthly or yearly fee to Ibiquty to use thier encode to broadcast in HD?

KRLD smoked the output network of Harris xmtr. Don't ask how, but if anyone can accomplish it, they can. $16K later, to be installed, HD transmission will resume when complete.
KMKI painting their multi tower array, on the backup, Non HD. HD will resume when complete.
KAAM working on their xmtr. HD will resume when complete.
KMGS...who knows???
Early adopters to the Ibiquity system paid a one time fee.

Beg to differ. I heard 1080 the other day. Hiss and all. Very bad.

I wonder how many complaints they get when they are not in HD? (snicker)
