why all the bashing on the wolf??

A

autumn

Guest
First of all I want to say that I love listening to the wolf morning, noon or night. I have listened from the first day and have not stopped and don't plan on stopping ever.

I used to only listen to cd's in my van when I was on the road, especially when my two boys were in the car with me, I got tired of having to change the station every 5 minutes when something came on that I did not think was appropriate, now we get in the car and the first thing that they ask is if they can listen to the wolf. When you have a station that you can count on like that it is worth having around. I LOVE IT!!!!!

Every morning when I am on my way to work I listen to the show and love hearing Fitz, Mary and Tony. I like the fact that they make people feel good about them selves, they have been that way in my opinion since day one. I was listening not too long ago and there was a woman that called in and was telling Fitz, how she loved listening and that her children loved it also, Fitz, ended up talking to one of the ladies children....okay so I am sure that other stations have done that before right? Well what stood out to me was the fact that he asked the girl what her favorite cartoon character was and she told him it was Scooby, okay no big deal right?....well it was to the little girl when he started talking to her in Scooby Doo's voice. Fitz made that little girls day! Anyone that will take the time to talk to a little girl like that and make her day the way he did, cares about his listeners in my opinion. Anyone that says they do not truely care about their listeners must not REALLY be listeing.

Okay so now that I have sent out my love I have one more thing to say.

If all you can do is sit at your computer and bash a radio station then you have got to be a very lonely and misserable person. There is alot better things to do with your time. It is simple people. If you do not like the station then do not listen to it. If you like to listen to KMPS then do so please. I am sure that the wolf will have no hurt feelings. I am sure that they would perfer that you to listen to the other station and be happy than to listen to their station and hate it and then get on here and bash on them. No one is saying that you have to listen. Plain and simple.

Keep doing what you are doing The Wolf.....We love it!

well put autumn...i am not a regular country music listener, but i love listening to the wolf in the mornings. fitz in the morning (and crew) are funny to listen to, and i love the p1 check in (what what).

whatever people think about the wolf (whether positive or negative), people are entitled to their opinion and can listen to whatever station they want. if fitz wants to use a message board to get word out about his show...more power to him. like what the wolf says..."...one listener at a time"

Well, to put this bluntly. It's about how suddenly the Wolf became such an adored station so fast. I'm sure there's a few newbies who may have been directed here by certain people connected to said canine country station and to them, I say welcome. But this sort of smacks of an attempt to directly influence this board and/or use it for a free promotional tool. Yes, The Wolf is Seattle's brand new second country radio station. But it takes time for a station to garner an almost KEXP like status in the minds of notoriously picky Puget Sound radio listeners. It's hard to imagine one station that plays a typical, cliche-ridden country radio format that's identical to the one in Portland could get so suddenly popular on any board in one day after two months on the air - especially this one.

agreed, I float on this board lots and enjoy reading about Seattle radio ( I like Larry and DJ Dan)but this Wolf stuff is weak. Save the testimonials for the Wolf website.

The Wolf in Seattle equals the 5 country stations in my market...They all SUCK!!...Just a Top 40 ripoff with no real personal connection besides the image of an animal that happens to play Country music...<P ID="edit"><FONT class="small">Edited by nwoidaho on 02/16/06 05:41 PM.</FONT></P>

Uhh wait, have you actually LISTENED to the wolf or are you just making up stuff?? Because if you really did listen to the wolf, you'd know that they have real personalities, instead of some of the crap like 'Leah' on KMPS at night.. .yah KMPS, theres real connection..

First, it's not Leah. It's Lia, as in Lia Knight, former KRPM-FM jock gone national, sort of a country version of Delilah.

Second, it's a country radio station. Nothing more. There is nothing particularly exciting or different about this radio station that hasn't been done everywhere else. There are country stations everywhere that sound like The Wolf.

It takes something really unique to get listener's attention in this market. Using a radio insider board as free promotion isn't really unique.

AND, incidentally, let us not lose sight of the fact that just a couple of years ago we cycled through another "exciting and different" country station. Young Country came in & flamed out quickly. And, frankly, it was MUCH fresher and more exciting than The Wolf has been so far. Wynn Richards in the afternoons & Penny Coin in the late morning... they had true personality throughout the day. I want The Wolf to do well, I really do. I think they are well intentioned. But I don't see it working long-term with what they are doing so far. I, for one, have already grown exceedingly bored of them.

The personalities on Young Country were fun to listen to. I tried listening to Fritz, but the only good thing is Mary White is back on the air. Now if only Entercom could persuade Ty Flint to return to Seattle, then I might listen.<P ID="signature">______________

> I'm sitting up here in Portland. I heard a little bit of Wingnut, who used to be at our KUPL and before that, Alternative KNRK. He seemed to fit in with what the station sounded like it was trying to do. I haven't heard anyone else yet so I can't comment on the quality of anyone else's show. I am not a Country fan and the last time I sampled KMPS, it struck me as more of an old MOR approach as opposed to KUPL or KWJJ. What I don't understand is how a station that is patterned after a successful Portland station could sound so bad, based on the comments of this board! Portland's "Wolf" is more of a tweak of a 40 year legend than anything else. I would think that just having a second choice is a good idea.

What did Young Country in was that echo chamber they used...listeners didn't know what to make of DJs that sounded like they were in a tunnel. It was irritating in spite of the great personality the station had (albeit not comparable to KXRX at it's best) And let's not forget the overkill of "Cows With Guns" Dana Lyons, Shania Twain/Def Leppard remixes, etc.

Larry, much of the time I agree with you and maybe your right about the echo - about listeners not knowing what to make of it - but I loved it. I guess Young Country was trying one of the old tricks of top 40 radio using Gasp! Reverb. Even making fun of it themselves, "ECHO, ECHO, ECHO". I know it was never big in the west, even in the golden era, but in the east using reverb was huge, and to this day still used and on some stations over there.

Young Country WAS unique, and unfortunately, using reverb and personality 24 hours a day like they did, and with shows like Club Young Country, and still tanking... seems to reinforce the bland and boring reasoning that drives the sound of most radio today. It really makes me sad.

BTW I bought a used copy of Smokin' Armadillos solely because Young Country played "I'm A Cowboy" in 1996. Still have it :) I agree KXRX 96dot5 was great too.

It was pretty unusual for radio locally. But personally, I like the old stuff. It was an interesting experiment and don't get me wrong - they DID have a huge cult following (I went to the Evergreen State Fair in '96 and I swear every other truck in the parking lot had a Young Country sticker on it. Not to say the others were covered with eggs, but they did have dedicated, passionate enough listeners.)

Young Country at times sounded like the missing link between KNHC and KMPS. The country/dance and even country/hip-hop experimentation goes on still and some of it is actually not bad. But as much as it caught the ears of teen to 30 something country fans, it seemed like almost everyone else was completely confused by it..in 1995. Today, you have Tim McGraw doing duets with Nelly and it doesn't seem that unusual now. I will credit the Young Country format for helping usher in that trend.....
