Why are Hot AC Stations ignoring Seconhand Serenade?

This is on of those things that puzzel my mind. Seconhand Serenades "fall For You" has been huge for CHR yet it has hardly done anything with CHR. It seems like it would be a good fit. Whats the deal?

It's worth a second look as it is scoring high in Rate The Music polling. However the reason I am not spinning this one (yet) is because it is really gimmicky at a time when Hot AC needs a freshened-up sound. I can think of at least 3 bands -- All-American Rejects, Blink-182, and Plain White T's -- that sound exactly like this group, and a rip off of a rip off of a rip just gets old after a while.

Short-term I am passing this one up unless it gains some traction in national callout. Long-term I am hoping for a re-emergence of bands who know how to capitalize on the power of the song hook. That includes pop from the likes of Leona Lewis and Katy Perry, and rock similar to what O.A.R. and Saving Abel are doing.

It may sound the same, but we have it in A right now...of course, we lean CHR.

It's got good response from our core 15-35.

Suburban moms & their teens love it here NE of Indy.

I agree with the sound it is kind of tired...I just found it odd....I originally thought they were The All American Rejects.

Just to clarify -- I'm not saying it's a bad song, I'm just saying that for the station I program I don't think it would be a great fit. I program a Hot AC station down in Alabam'. We like our chicken fried, our tea sweet, and our Hot AC stations on the conservative side.

Hey Butlerguy... You must work at WLBC B-104 Right??? I live south of Indy and I can sort of get it here,, Your station has always leaned CHR from what I recall, but you dont play Hard Rap, but you seemed to have moved most the 80s out... Your station is similar to B-102.7 in Terre Haute, except B-102.7 plays some classic 90s Dance at times, and plus plays probably more 80s than you.. Doesnt WLBC still use the Todays best Music Slogan,,, and is kinda the default chr, cause isnt 96.7 in Anderson still a Hot AC,, or have they changed by now?

Actually...I am the instructor/GM/psuedo-MD at WEEM, Pendleton Heights High School

We flipped from College Rock to HAC/CHR on August 1st...if you havn't checked us out yet, I think we blow WLBC out of the water! We program by a similar philosophy probably, but I think our energy at night is better. Typically we run as a HAC, but limit songs to the last 10 years during the day, and then flip to more of a CHR after 3pm. Urban has a hard time getting on our station, but we allow some (if you didnt, you couldnt be a HAC or CHR today).

Because we are a HS station, distribution is slow, so we are usually a week behind or so. We still sound better, and offer a great alternative to WLBC, WZPL & WNOU. Our DJ's are rough, but they are learning.

We also have a Hard Rock show, Hip Hop and R&B show, College Rock Show, Christian Contemporary show, a ton of sports, and plenty of public programming on Sunday mornings. We are looking at starting a Dance show, but that decision will come from the students...from reading your posts over the past year or so, I would imagine you might like that!
