Well, there ARE ratings, but the P12+ numbers, which are usually given out to the media and the public as a courtesy, are not being given out anymore. We assume it's because there are non-subscribers in the market.
Namely, Galaxy's Ed Levine used to be on some sort of Arbitron advisory panel, and made pretty big headlines when he very publicly severed his ties with Arbitron, and signing up with the competing Eastlan ratings service.
It's funny you should ask about this -- earlier in the week, we sent a request to Arbitron's press agent about this. So far, they have not responded. But if/when they do, we will have a full article at CNYRadio.com. If you visit the site, you might recall this was the topic of our "
Weekly Poll" a few weeks back, and we thought it would be interesting to see what Arbitron has to say about the results we had -- where most people said it's time to get rid of the embargo.
It should be noted that the ratings are also embargoed in Watertown and Ithaca (the other 2 markets CNYRadio.com covers). Galaxy doesn't own anything there, so those two are a little bit more of a mystery to us. Years ago, we had heard something about Clancy-Mance or another operator in Watertown "illegally" using the P12+ numbers without subscribing to the book, and the Regent GM (at the time) blew the whistle on them. That's not confirmed as hard fact, but hopefully we'll have the official reasons when Arbitron responds to us.
