Why are there so many syndicated shows on Urban/AC?

I'm in Dallas and I have to post here on the urban discussion board because all they want to talk about on the local board is Russ Martin and The Fan!........Anyway, was wondering why are there so many syndicated shows on Urban/Ac radio stations? Let's see theres Tom Joyner, Steve Harvey, Michael Baisden, Keith Sweat, Doug Banks.....did I leave anybody out? I realize the economy is bad and this is a cost cutting measure but why does it have to effect one particular format more than it does others? There are a lot of talented people out of work who unfortunately may never get a chance to work in this industry again! Your thoughts please!

on philly 107.9 WRNB has one syndicated show the tom joyner show
and the rest is live and local on 105.3

its steve harvey in the morning and michael basdien in the afternoon

IMO, Urban AC is a format that can work with syndicated dayparts versus Urban and Rhythmic. Mornings on most Urban AC stations either have Tom Joyner or Steve Harvey. Middays on Urban AC seems to be the only daypart where it's local nationwide. Afternoons only choice is Michael Baisden for Urban syndication, however Doug Banks is back in the afternoon syndication game with only 1 station for now. Nights have Keith Sweat, but Brian McKnight also did nights for a while so did Mell Devonne..

@Nradio2long, yes you left out some. One being (Citadel Media Network-"The Touch") which is a 24/7 Format, "Rejoice! Musical Soulfood", You left out quite a few, I'll try to name some here, parden if I leave any out. Also "SGN The Light"-AURN.COM, "Sol Kafe"-Superadio.com, "Cafe Micha-Superadio.com, "Kissing After Dark with Lenny Green"-Superadio.com, Back Spin-Superadio.com, Lost in The 80s with Derrick Jonzun-Superadio.com, "Old School House Party with Gerald Mcbride"-Superadio.com, "Zain's Jammin Africa"-Radioexpress.com, The World Chart Show with PJ Butta"-Radioexpress.com, "The Countdown with Walt Baby Love"-Radioexpress.com and Dial-Global.com. As I said parden if I missed any. These are just to name a few.

That is true...In Albany on 98.1 Kiss FM they have Steve Harvey, Doug Banks, and the Clear Channel night jock for small and medium markets and even here in Jacksonville....Keith Sweat. They may only have one live and local daypart and that may be middays. WQVE 101.7 has gone fully automated with "The Touch" the only live part they have is Sunday Morning Gospel. BTW Derrick Jonzun used to be on 96.3 in Albany back in the late 80s and early 90s. And if anyone notices..weekends are now voicetracked on most Urban ACs now or the same ol old school mix play every weekend.

Yep i was a part timer there. Started out in promotions then i moved over to on air on the weekends. Really miss Albany's New Source for Hip Hop and R&B.

They killed that slogan in Macon, Tally and Nashville!

Because UAC is easier to sell than hip hop so every network is trying to get a piece of it.

Doug Banks should have stayed hip hop in the AM drive period. But i miss the show when coco was on there. I think that was the height of it.

I agree with that. Doug Banks was a great morning show and so is Russ Parr. However, Citadel wanted Big Boy over Banks and look what happened to that failure.
