Why Beasley has not changed KDWN

They must have realized how cost effective this station was under previous owners who were down right thrifty to the extreme. Example on most morning drive shows you would have the talent, newsman ,producer, board op,call screener and probably an intern,KDWN gives you Hart,Ken and thats it. For news other than network its rip and read and maybe some items from RJ not in entirety. Add the brokered programs at $600 an hour which was mentioned by Mark Edwards as he was leaving and thanking previous owner who liked his cause and kept him on and forego the brokered programs for 2 hours a night. Beasley owns WRCA in Boston area ,entire brokered and foreign language station. Why spend big bucks on KDWN if things remain as they are without additional over head and they will make nice profit after their debt service expenses.

All of the Beasley talk stations that I am aware of have a lot of paid programming. That's the way they operate them, they go for the quick cash instead of building ratings with quality product.

So here we were all pondering what major or minor changes Beasley would make when they took over KDWN. We should have realized that KDWN was already running the way Beasley likes to operate talk stations, it was a perfect match.

So far the only change has been improved sweepers/production elements and of course they are now in a modern studio and no longer use antique equipment. Maybe they will beef up their news department and hire a reporter, but I would be surprised if they make any drastic (or even a lot of minor) changes. They may have a new owner, but it's the same old KDWN that we know so well.

And that is a very good thing to know! With changes all over the entertainment spectrum from the familiar to the unknown, it is nice to know that something that many of us have come to know & feel comfortable with will be there for our enjoyment for a little while longer (Re: KZLA's sudden change from country to dance).
