Why can't Atlanta have a station like K-PIG?

Interesting playlist:

11:02am Van Morrison Till Gain Control Again
11:02am Bruce Springsteen Working On The Highway
10:55am Fred Eaglesmith Mighty Big Car
10:51am Tracy Chapman Say Hallelujah
10:39am Todd Snider Old Friend
10:37am Rolling Stones Stealing My Heart
10:31am Billy Joe Shaver Live Forever

.....and people complain about Dave's playlist. This too cool for school playlist is even narrower in the audience it would draw than the current Dave audience.

Must agree here. While I like the music here, I doubt many in the public would.

That said, there is no reason that DAVE couldn't add the more popular songs by the artists mentioned above. That would mean, however, that DAVE listeners would not be able to hear INXS every hour.

E.G.:
Van Morrison: Blue Money, Domino, Wild Night or Jackie Wilson Said.
Bruce Springsteen: Badlands, Be True, Ramrod or Atlantic City.
Tracy Chapman: Fast Car, Talkin' Bout a Revolution, Give Me One Reason or Crossroads.
Don't even get me started on The Stones. There are about 50 songs DAVE could play that they don't.

Testify.

Now this is REAL radio!
Why must all Atlanta radio be muck?

If not one of the main channels...at least one of the HD-2 signals. The Hd-2's in Atlanta are lame....and I am being polite there. WHo has passed the law that says "thine Hd2 shall resemble thy analog/HD1 signal"? This is where HD could shine...but the Hd-2 have the same lame programming.

Heck, if I had my choice, the Hd-2 would be music....something different...and It would include good old fashioned news TOH.

A K-PIG format would be great for HD-2. And yes, the format would not necessarily be "mass-appeal," but it would do well with adult white boys.(K-PIG claims to have been #1 25-54 in Monteray book at some point) The 12+ rank is 5th or 6th.....and they have a crappy signal.
Too cool for school?? Just what school did you go to??
If radio wants people to buy into "digital" radio then they have better start giving folks a reason. The best HD-2 so far has been programmed by engineers. Mike Aurand ran a great HD-2 on Star94 until Don Benson bought a HD receiver and realized the engineering staff was doing a better job than programming could!! So much for radio innovation......

i will assume that somebody was visiting the bay area and stumbled upon kpig. it's a great station to listen to if you like a wide variety of music. one of the founders just passed away in the last few days. i'm sure kpig would have that story on their web site.
if interested you also find it at www.sjmercury.com. living in san jose, i can't pick up that station because of the mountains, but they are also on an am station in san francisco, but i can't get that either.

actually, KPIG (and simulcast KPYG San Luis Obispo) stream...
http://www.kpig.com/news.html

FYI...KPYG is the former KOTR (K-Otter)...they ysed to cover the central coast with their
upside down call letter bumper stickers (think otters).

I find KPIG to be too-cool-for-the-room...but I agree with the other posters...it makes a perfect HD-2 format

wait and see what the new KZPS in Dallas does. While that station is VERY Texas-centric...if it catches on, then you can bet your behind it's gonna be copied.

Respectfully, disagree. Thinking like this is killing radio. Do the same thing over and over and expect "different results". Insanity. What room are you talking about anyway? The room where people who have nothing else to do in the world except fill out an Arbitron diary dictate the musical needs of the rest of the world? The NEW world is quickly leaving traditional radio in the dust; new rules apply. A sad day indeed when we collectively cannot figure that out.

You and I basically agree (I think)...I'm also tired of the same old tested...boring tunes in tight rotations.
I've only listened to KPIG a few times...but I found it to be nothing much more that a station trying too hard
to be ultra cool...I'm exaggerating...but the feel from the jocks seemd to me to be..."here's another obscure tune that
you've never heard of...but if you were as sophisticated as me...you might like it" Just my take.
now here's the J Geils band of Two-fer-Thursday...
