Why cant HD Radio be this reliable?

I am for HD radio, but right now I just wish it would be more powerfull. I just got a HDTV tuner the other day, and with just a pair of rabbit ears, I can pull in San antonio HDTV which is 60 + Miles away and Austin HDTV which is 30+ miles with no problem at all. I wonder if HD Radio will ever be like that ???

When you're talking digital the signal is either there or it isn't. Whether you receive a local quality signal or a deep fringe signal as long as the data can be decoded the picture is perfect or it isn't there. IBOC radio will improve over time. Today with my attic TV antenna I have no problem receiving an solid HD 1&2 signal from over 60 miles away. The Sangean tuner (HDT-1 and HDT-1X) is an extremely sensitive receiver and probably the best HD radio available at this time. (My opinion)

With my "big mama" Antennacraft 84 element antenna, rotor, and preamp, I have no trouble pulling in ROCK SOLID (24/7...never a dropout) HD from 100 miles away (Asheville NC, Greenville SC, Raleigh NC).

Perhaps they should include a free ""big mama" Antennacraft 84 element antenna, rotor, and preamp," with each HD radio sold, especially the promised new HD pocket radios. :)

My 12 element antenna does exellent for analog reception it is 23 feet up in the air..., I get a clean stereo reception from 60-84 miles away. I only wish HD was that reliable. Untill then I guess my radio would make a good clock. ;)

I don't know how many watts your HDTV stations are putting out, but where I live I'm only 25 or 30 mile away from the transmitter and I have the biggest antenna that Radio Shack had in the store, and really good RG6 cable and if my antenna is not pointed dead at the tower It freezes and drops off. I also lose some stations when it rains. another problem is that the transmitters are not all in the same area and in order to get 100 percent I would have to turn the antenna. Right now I get all my stations ok in good weather except for the low power stations and the CW affiliate which is located in the complete oposite direction. Which reqires me to climb on the roof. which I don't do because the last time I climbed on the roof was after Katrina to turn the antenna for the super bowl and wound up flat on my back on the asphalt with 4 broken ribs. and I still didn't see the Super bowl.

Its possible your HDTV stations may only be broadcasting in low power. A few that I get are and it jumps around a lot, but most of the networks are on High power. I'm just wondering what is going to happen in 2009 if my reception will be any diffrent.

How ? Increasing the power levels of the IBOC saddlebags will just cause more interference. At this rate, analog will never be shut off, so going all-digital is just a pipe-dream. Digital TV will be a disaster, as digital is all-or-nothing - same with HD/IBOC.

Well at a point I agree with you, but HDTV really surprised me with those rabbit ears, I couldnt believe the picture quality. If only HDFM was this easy!
