I'm enjoying their "3 decades of dance" weekend. It's definitely something different on the airwaves of southcentral PA. Could this be considered the "Jack of rhythmic music."? :)

Let's not get carried away here. Monday morning returns before you know it.

Unless they plan to unveil a "Diva".....

Harrisburg has a HUGE gay population and a number of dance clubs. Yeah. DANCE clubs. As in, DANCE music. Not rap.

I don't see an 8 share from a dance station, but it'll definitely be on the map if you can get it clearly in Harrisburg.
______________

I'm sure a dance station could double the lousy ratings that Cool Pop receives. Hell, I could probably fart into the microphone for four hours straight in morning drive and pull down more ratings.

I listened this weekend for a few hours...most of the music was very good... could have done without the few rock/AC cuts, like Santana/Alex Band and slower cuts.

yeah, a real dance station in harrisburg would be awesome...we need more variety in programming...i think people could get into that kind of thing...i would definitely be listening...

Never going to happen, at least with anyone already in this market. I can't think of a single person who has the background or the ear to program actual dance.
______________

you make it sound harder than what it actually is...look at the uk...theres tons of great dance stuff coming out of there...just listen to some of the online stations, and you'll get the idea of how to do it...theyre great, and you cant tell me that no one in the area can do what theyre doing nearly as well...even if it isnt perfect, there'll be some audience...even if its only coolpop sized...

Dig up some of my old posts and you'll see I have for a long time called for a KTU-type station in this area. And now CoolPop experiments with Rhythmic AC on the weekends. 106.7 is the perfect signal for it, covering Harrisburg and Lancaster.

They did a REAL good job on their dance weekend. I loved hearing Michelle Branch...it's a very dancy tune. [/sarcasm]

> the uk...theres tons of great dance stuff coming out of

Yeah...and the PD will throw on every song they hear that sounds dancy, thus killing the station. You can't play UK tracks here. You have to delay them appropriately and filter out the garbage...to do that you need to know dance music.

> there'll be
> some audience...even if its only coolpop sized...

That's the problem. You can't afford a coolpop sized audience. A coolpop sized dance audience wouldn't even show up on the ratings...look what happened with Energy Arizona and that was with a very experienced, sharp guy well connected in the dance scene.

The key to a Harrisburg/York (and hopefully fringe Baltimore) dance station is LOCAL LOCAL LOCAL. Screw what they're playing in Berlin and London. We're not Berlin and London. Screw what some kid's ipod is playing online. The audience is using a radio.

#1 = GAY FRIENDLY. Take advantage of that huge group that is often left out.
#2 = As I said, LOCAL. Get into the clubs...I'm not talking about Vertigo and Eclipse. I'm talking about the actual DANCE clubs. If the jocks there spin mostly pop remix house, tailor the station to mostly pop remix house.
#3 = Make it CLASSY. No taking pictures of dead animals and talking about it on the air. Exciting jocks, but not shock jocks. No sweepers busting on other stations.
#4 = LIVE talent. If people want a dance music jukebox, they'll put on their ipods. XM81/BPM does a thing called Bullet Points where they hit a few goodies relating to the dance industry....new releases, where the big jocks are spinning, etc.

If a dance station ever came to this market, I'd swallow my pride, bow to my corporate overlords, and beg for a job. I'd actually know the music.
______________

Listen to The Beat on Sirius, that is exactly what a dance station in Harrisburg should sound like.
