WHY CORPORATE RADIO IS KILLING OLDIES

Most of those songs actually would sound good on a variety-hits playlist. I'd ditch the James Brown, the Rebecca Black, the Lee Greenwood and the Penguins.
 
ditch james brown and the penguins.....that's like taking out the HO in the HOLLYWOOD sign, muting the MGM Lion, Denying Danica Patrick Driving lesson in the 8th grade, what are you thinking.. In the words of Joe Dolce ..

Why are they playing music from the 2010s but not the 1910s? I demand to hear Billy Murray, Henry Burr, Arthur Collins, Ada Jones, Reed Miller, Byron G. Harlan, Charles Harrison and Emilio DeGorgoza!

Even though this format is only temporary, it's still nice to hear a station that isn't boring and predictable. If there was a '40s-through-'90s station in Los Angeles, I certainly would listen!

Well, it isn't in El A and only hits the 40's very infrequently but KOY plays a variety of music that I don't hear any other place. Everything from Big Band (usually Sinatra unfortunately) through the great female singers of the early 50's, some 60's and 70's classic hits and some iHeart Radio songs they try to push (only 1 or 2 per hour). The best variety is the weekday drive time morning show with Danny Davis as he seems to be able to select his own music. He also does a "sock hop" three hour show on Friday afternoons at 3 PM MST/PDT.

Have you ever listened to the funky & upbeat "Good Foot"? It's really one good song that deserves far more airplay than it's getting today (which is almost none).
