Why did AC stop being soft?

Some other songs I haven't heard before on WEZV, based on a lyrics search if I didn't know the song already:

"It's My Life" Talk Talk
"Magic" Cars
"Heaven" Warrant
"Shut Up and Dance" Walk the Moon
"SOS" Rihanna
"Can't Fight the Moonlight" LeAnn Rimes (not sure about this one)
"Adore You" Harry Styles
"Something Happened On The Way To Heaven" Phil Collins
"The Look" Roxette
"Blurred Lines" Robin Thicke
"Want to Want Me" Jason Derulo

The Warrant song I already heard but I thought it was by Europe, and I checked the Europe lyrics the second time I heard it. They didn't match.

More of "Today's best, yesterday's favorites." You're learning a lot about today's best music, if that's what you want.
I don't.

However, one of these days I may compare these lists to other station's playlists.

I do know I was quite familiar with a the correct responses to couple of categories during the "Jeopardy!" college tournament, all because of this station's change.

There seem to be a lot of yesterday's favorites too, but many of the songs from the old format are still showing up, and I'm just not listing those.

And here's another list of songs I don't believe were played before WEZV changed, if the lyrics search gave me the right song when I needed it. I might be wrong about "Dancing in the Dark" and it certainly would have been fine for soft AC.

"Bad Romance" Lady Gaga
"Hungry Like the Wolf" Duran Duran
"Dancing in the Dark" Bruce Springsteen
"The Edge of Glory" Lady Gaga
"Party in the U.S.A." Miley Cyrus
"Sorry" Justin Bieber (maybe have it)
"Sugar" Maroon 5 (maybe have it)
"Take Me Home Tonight" Eddie Money
"Never Say Goodbye" Bon Jovi
"3AM" Matchbox Twenty
"I'll Tumble 4 Ya" Culture Club
"Underdog" Alicia Keys
"The Edge of Glory" Lady Gaga
"These Are My Friends" Lovelytheband
"Gone, Gone, Gone" Phillip Phillips

"It's My Life" is not the version by Talk Talk. I found out that group does not have a female vocalist. It is apparently No Doubt that I heard.

Here are more songs I do not believe I have not previously heard on WEZV:

"Oh Sheila" Ready for the World
"Never Be the Same" Camila Cabello
"Less Than Perfect" Karmin
"I've Been Thinking about You" Londonbeat
"Counting Stars" OneRepublic (maybe)
"Jessie's Girl" Rick Springfield
"If I Could Turn Back Time" Cher

I have someone else listed for "Counting Stars" for some reason on another list. I'll have to see if there's a female vocalist. The web site does not list songs or artists. Actually, I have three different artists for that song.

Please explain the point of continuing this obsessive-compulsive list of songs and artists, many of them guesswork, especially in relation to the subject of this thread. All you're doing is hammering us with songs (or guesses at songs by bands you don't even know the gender composition of) that aren't soft, either in actuality or by your "Oh, my delicate ears! Make those electric guitars and pounding drums stop or I will leave your store forever!" standards. We get it! AC has stopped being soft! Why? Because the musical preferences of its moving-target demographic -- 25-54 women, with the bull's eye at 35-44 -- have changed since the days of Air Supply and Michael MacDonald. CHR doesn't play ultra-soft pop like that anymore and hasn't for at least 20 years, so today's 40-year-old AC listener was never exposed to that sort of music when she was listening to CHR as a 20-year-old. Why would she want to hear it now?

I think I explained the point. Anytime you want, you can list the songs other ACs are doing and we can compare.

I can't prove a song isn't played if I don't list it, though, and when the web site doesn't show last songs played, I can't list a song I don't hear. Still, a bunch of songs other ACs play haven't made it into any of my lists. That's not proof. But overall, WEZV seems more conservative than the other stations when I look at the entire list of what I've heard.

And if you really want to see how different this station is from some ACs, look at the lists of 80s songs I posted. It's a pretty wide range.

OK, here's the last 10 from WRCH Hartford:

Billie Jean -- Michael Jackson
Circles -- Post Malone
A Thousand Years -- Christina Perri
Footloose -- Kenny Loggins
Closer -- Chainsmokers/Halsey
Let's Hear It for the Boy -- Deniece Williams
Haven't Met You Yet -- Michael Buble
Only Human -- Jonas Brothers
Breathe -- Faith Hill
Angel -- Aerosmith

Also played within the last 90 minutes: Hotel California, Total Eclipse of the Heart, Manic Monday, The Rose, Hips Don't Lie, and ... All Out of Love! Wow, Air Supply! I guess WRCH must be very conservative, then.

I have no standard AC to compare it to. The two Hot ACs I get here -- WTIC-FM Hartford and WEZN Bridgeport -- weren't playing any '80s, as expected. In the past two hours, the oldest song played on WTIC-FM was Third Eye Blind's Semi-Charmed Life. WEZN went all the way back to Alanis Morissette's Ironic.

Some of those songs used to be on WEZV but aren't any more. Or at least I haven't heard them. Interesting.

Now I'll do one. WKQC Charlotte, last two hours.

There's a lot of similarity there to WEZV, but I have not heard WEZV play "Blow Me", "Caught Up in You", "Looking for a New Love" or "Let's Go All the Way". And Bob Seger has been missing since the change, just based on what I heard.

I have a list of songs I heard on WEZV for the first time but some people seem to have a problem with my posting these for some reason. I'm going to wait. I haven't listened a lot lately because it's such a distraction to have to keep going back to the station every few minutes and then looking up lyrics if I need to.

But I had something else to post about today. I just got back from the mountains and at some point I may post somewhere about WESC. Not a great classic-leaning country station but there are some good songs there.

And I remembered to check on this one station in my motel room. 105.7 the River, they call it. Today's hits, yesterday's favorites. It's one of the few AM stations I can pick up with all the interference. Also, the radio is probably not very good since it has a lot of trouble with anything below 94 these days. Used to be it could pick up stations at 92 or above.

When I still could pick up Mix 96.5 because the weather was still bad, every song was one I recognized from WEZV, but they were all newer songs, not songs from the 80s or 90s. Mix is considered Hot AC.

One day I tried The River and noticed every single song was one I recognized from the old WEZV format. Wait ... a SOFT AC? No, Taylor Swift's "lover". Well, that's till soft. "Sucker" by The Jonas Brothers. Okay, that's pushing it. "Any Way You Want It" by Journey. I haven't even heard that one on WEZV. Not even with all the Journey songs they play. I kept going back and it does appear to be a softer leaning mainstream AC. Some of the songs I haven't heard on WEZV since the change.

Oh, look, they have a web site. I can't "listen live", though.

Funny, I just made a thread about stations like this. This is a AC/Adult Hits hybrid station I was talking about, similar to KCKC in Kansas City. It seems to lean more towards "Jack"-type artists like .38 Special, Def Leppard, and New Kids on the Block. Those aren't current AC staples, but are more on the "we play anything" side of things.

WKQC didn't play Def Leppard. Now maybe we would find they did at another time.

The market where WKQC is located has a "we play anything" station which used to be AC.

If I'm not mistaken I heard "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" AND "We Will Rock You". Where I was, it could have been any station. I was trying to listen to NPR.

I haven't listed songs that I heard for the first time on WEZV lately. I haven't listened much lately anyway. I may have been incorrect that Michelle Williams and Hugh Jackman did "A Million Dreams" because I discovered that Pink also did a song with that title. Maybe the same song.

I don't think any of these are in the other lists, but here goes.

"Stay" Zedd and Alessia Cara
"A Million Dreams" Pink
"Blinding Lights" The Weeknd
"There's Nothing Holding Me Back" Shawn Mendes

"If the World Was Ending" JP Saxe
"Teenage Dream" Katy Perry
"The Sweet Escape" Gwen Stefani

"Stay" Lisa Loeb
"Halo" Beyoncé
"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" Poison
"All That She Wants" Ace of Base

"How You Remind Me" Nickelback
"If the World Was Ending" J. P. Saxe
"Breathe" Anna Nalick
"Only in My Dreams" Debbie Gibson
"Safe and Sound" Capital Cities
"Crush" Jennifer Paige

I haven't done this in a while. More songs I had not heard on WEZV. Some are soft. We can compare these lists to what other ACs are doing. Maybe some mainstream ACs are softer, and maybe some play songs I haven't heard on WEZV. That doesn't mean that they're not there, because these lists are getting longer and I'm not listening that much.

"Keep Your Head Up" Andy Grammer
"Crazy" Aerosmith
"Larger Than Life" Backstreet Boys
"Raise Your Glass" Pink
"Into the Groove" Madonna

"Come On Get Higher" Matt Nathanson

Gee, and people complain that radio playlists are too small and lack variety.
How do you feel about the variety on WEZV?
