Why Did KFI Dismiss Talk Show Host Mo Kelly?

Back when Mo Kelly's show went full-time on KFI, the RadioDiscussions thread was skeptical that Kelly's formula would work, being more focused on pop culture than the typical conservative talk show.

And it appears we were right. Well, you were right. I thought a lighter show might work in the evening time slot.

There was never an indication this change was about cost savings.

Mo's show was boring to listen to, especially if you're not into the whole Marvel/DC universe action hero thing.

You can't blame the listeners for not tuning in. There's a reason why. So, the blame lands on Mo Kelly for a failure of a show..

As a result, his contract was not renewed, and he is unemployed. The station has returned the slot to Conway. Now it's up to the listeners to tune in.

There WAS a time when listeners would listen to anything. They'd listen to music they didn't like by artists they didn't know. Not anymore.

Why don't radio stations take chances anymore? This is why.

What's wrong with his style of show in the morning? Especially if Whitman was included, it would be fantastic.
It's just more suited for evening is all. Besides it won't happen. His show is great but it's just not suited for mornings. His style of show..I mean John and Ken did mornings at 790 Kabc in 2000 and that didn't last...

The producer shapes the subject matter.

If by that, you are implying that the talent has no say in that, perhaps you'd rather we just put the producer on the air and save the second paycheck.

He should have had a mainstream show bout the entertainment industry...Have show runners and producers from older TV shows and movies on as guests... Talk bout the tax breaks that are suppose to help the industry...etc etc...He made it way to Niche to tunnel vision. Who wants a steady diet of marvel...

Maybe. It depends on whether the industry would support it, in participation, listening, and even advertising and promotion. I imagine that iHeart would have considered such a concept at some point -- after all, KFI is in Los Angeles -- the late Sam Rubin made a career out of it so it probably came up during discussions.

But for an entire three-hour show? I'm skeptical. And maybe iHeart was as well.

True good point maybe not all 3 hours he could have intertwined it with his marvel stuff but as is his show wasn't all that interesting. He could have made it a lot better. Just 1 mans opinion. Hope u n ur radio station r thriving n this new year...

Thanks for those well wishes, Patrick. KRKE is now a few months into our fourth year of all-80s and the owner is adding to the sales staff, so all is well.
