Why did WQUT slump so badly?

Though the majority of stations would hold fireworks celebrations with what WQUT did in their overall book, by their standards it is the lowest book in memory.

Choose your favorite random excuse here. While I don't completely agree with any of these excuses there's truth in all of them.

A- There's been little change at WQUT over the years. The Jocks have been there forever. John Boy and Billy have been there forever. The playlist has been there forever. There's nothing really wrong with any of this- nobody does a bad job per se- but the fact is it's been the same for so long that we're just sick of it!

B- Classic rock is dying. This month alone Alex Van Halen turned 56. Billy Squier turned 59. Ozzy was wrong- you CAN kill rock and roll. It took awhile but just dig up Kurt Cobain and you'll find him holding the smoking gun.

C- Need a new morning show. By now John Boy and Billy does nothing but insult our intelligence.

D- It's just a random book. Bad sampling. Don't worry. By summer the rating will have doubled and we're still doing well in our demographics.

E- The preachers finally won. Our music IS Satanic and everybody knows it. Thankfully a significant portion of the population around here has rebelled and worhips the devil alongside us!

You're absolutely right.. the numbers for all of those classic rock stations are dropping, some slowly, others like rocks. All of the decline is enhanced by John Boy and Billy, the original Rednecks of Radio. Speeding the decline? You got the same J B & B crap on a full power station in Johnson City, a full power station in Knoxville, a full power station in Chattanooga, a full power station in Nashville, a full power station in Charlotte, a full power station in Atlanta.. get the idea?

The problem is.. all of them overlap with the exact same nonsensical program, the same jokes, the same tired songs (if I hear Hotel California one more time, I'll shoot the radio) the same haw-haw-haws as they laugh at each others' jokes, their stupid black people imitations, their stupid crazy women imitations, their stupid Arab imitations. Nobody's laughing with them anymore. It's all stupid, non-sequential nonsense, and thank God, it's wearing thin. There's better stuff elsewhere, as stations are finding classic rock that has never gotten any play. I'll join the campaign if somebody starts one.. we've made John Boy and Billy rich enough.. Let's retire them, like an old baseball player's number.. hang it on the wall and see who salutes it.
 
My dad lives in Raleigh. He's 68 now. He's more of an old bluegrass fan. He used to listen to JB&B. I think he told me they took JimBo & Bobby off WRDU 106. Who'd a thunk it, Raleigh NC, the capital of Liberlism-duh?
