Why didn't 98.3 work as CHR?

Pitching and Key Lock, Master Tempo...

In DJ terms the lingo can be Key Lock (Numark CD Players) or Master Tempo (Denon CD Players), but it is something I STILL after almost 8 years in professional broadcasting can't figure out WHY radio stations that do pitch, won't use.

Master Tempo uses some nifty formula that locks the key of the artist in place while you can pitch up or down the tempo, and I mean +-100%!! of the track. I use it on all my Denon DJ Equiptment and this feature has been around for several years now. For the Denon line, ever since they debuted the Denon 2500F.

B94/93.7 BZZ and mostly all the station CD decks at the Infinity FMs were/are Denon professional CD decks and B94 was pitched to 1.6% if I can remember correctly. These machines DID NOT have master tempo / Key Lock but just your standard tempo change jog wheel..

The influence of radio stations pitching beyond there means always puzzled me growing up. I couldn't figure out why my album or tape was slower than on the radio. Club Owners and Radio station PD's have some sort of ideology that faster tempo of a Green Day track that is only suppose to be 78 BPM's sounds fine at 85 BPM's. Well, it doesn't and the artists BELIEVE ME can't stand it. I have asked several of them in my time.

If you radio people don't like the tempo songs are recorded at, learn to play an instrument, form a band, AND RECORD YOUR OWN MUSIC.

The radio "professionals" in here are sure quick to bitch when someone who's only a listener expresses an opinion about their "profession". But you guys are sure quick to mess up music that someone else recorded when none of you are working in actively recording bands.

The ownership. The Rita Resick the president of the organization decided to to put her out of work comedian son in charge. No radio background but a shady past. This worked out so well that Froggy came in to bail them out of dept. Froggy did the same thing for Jim Humes and WASP AM/FM. The begining of the end of radio in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Re: Pitching and Key Lock, Master Tempo...

Or, better yet, if you don't like the fact a station speeds up a certain song, rather than complain about it, don't listen to the station anymore. You could even plunk down a couple of nickels and support the artists that you claim to like by actually buying their cds.

It's one thing to ask how or why something is done in the radio industry, and to that point I think this thread has more than addressed it, but to just complain about it when ultimately the listener has final say so by simply turning the dial or turning the radio off completely is ludicrous, especially when it is the very same complaint, just posted over and over and over again.

I do that. And I want to make sure that any station manager who thinks that speeding up records will increase his listernership knows it.

I do that as well. In fact, I find myself increasingly listening to pre-recorded music instead of music format radio when I want to hear music. That makes me a very typical music listener, and explains why the entire music-format radio industry is like the Titanic after it stopped to take on a little extra ice.

Would you prefer if I speeded up my complaint? Maybe if I typed it faster you'd like it better.

Re: Pitching and Key Lock, Master Tempo...

You can type as fast as you like, I was just merely pointing out that in this thread you said the same thing three different times. You once said you did standup, did you have to tell your jokes three times also before getting a laugh? We got the point the first time.
