Why do good stations get stuck with marginal signals

dwtpa97 said:
And speaking of good stations with marginal signals, I sure love the "Route 66" format of adult standards carried on WSDV Sarasota and WDDV Venice. Don't understand why the bay area mega-owners don't run something like this on one of their Tampa-St. Petersburg stations. The ratings couldn't be any worse than some of their stations already have. And this metro area has an older demographic, which could well suit this kind of format.

Thank goodness for internet streaming.

Good question.

Always enjoyed WSUN 620 when it was classic country. I think COX did it when they owned it.... Who can forget Rusty Cannon, Bob Lee, Stonewall Jackson and a few others!

106.5 HD2 is a classic country format and pretty good (I'll admit I am a little biased towards my station) but the CC Classic Country Format is really good. And if the hd2 goes off?!?!?! I am always here for you to scream at.

Oh and another shameless plug, the WDDV/WSDV signal is on iheartradio and the sound quality should be very acceptable to most of you. It has independent hardware processing and is in stereo.

Of course if it's not to your liking free feel to flame (I have the suit on already)

Have a great night fellow radio lovers!

I'm not really a country music fan, but I do sometimes listen to
WCTQ which comes in very well here in St. Petersburg, and I did realize that it's better (to me at least) than the two Tampa country music stations, I didn't realize it was Classic Country, but I was thinking it might be, but after reading the Wikipedia article I noticed that WCTQ was not listed...... but to my ears WCTQ sounds different than the two country music stations.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_country

How would you describe WCTQ 106.5's main channel?

btw- I've heard WCTQ being played in a locally owned garage in this area as well as a hardware store.

btw-2. hdradioeng is a hero to many people, as he helped get some of the radio stations in the Alabama/Mississippi area back on the air after the tornadoes several weeks ago!

Here in Citrus County I can hear country gold on saturday nights on 93.7 WOGK-Ocala. But that is it in terms of that. If HD Radio worked out of the format problems would have been worked out by now.

I was ready to go and then was told to wait, I never did deploy but as always stand ready anytime to help when needed.

And thank all of you for the kind words, its always nice to be appreciated!

As for WCTQ main channel that would be hard to peg, I'll ask the PD tomorrow for a response to that!

The wiki page looks like in general it does not list HD2 channels.

Have a great evening all!

Look at WDUV, The station is arbitron-rated #1.

Remember that 6+ ratings ≠ 25-54 ratings. There's a reason Arbitron releases the "beauty pageant" numbers to the public while protecting the demo (and daypart) rating information that it sells to its clients, which in turn those stations use to sell advertising time. It's been some time since I've seen any Tampa demo breakdowns, but I know in the past that WDUV being #1 12+ (as they used to do it) did not translate to being near the top in the P25-54 demo.

hdradioeng I would like to thank you for your work in Ms. and Alabama. It is people like you that keep the industry going.

Elaborate, por favor.

Part of that quote was quoting me and like a broken clock, I am only right twice a day and this wan't one of those times!; I had heard or thought I heard or read that hdradioeng had actually been in the tornado area, as opposed to being ready to be deployed to go there.

Hdradioeng is still a hero for being willing and able to be deployed. (not to mention, helping to get WSRZ back on the air a month or so ago)

Sorry for the confusion.

My "bucket list" includes my last day on earth being able to say, "I kept up with the broken clock."

When is Clear Channel going to put the "Route 66" format (similar to WSDV Sarasota) on a Tampa-St. Petersburg radio station? They might as well put one of those unlistened-to channels to work for them -

Which Tampa Bay FM do you believe would make the best candidate for the Route 66 format?

To be honest with you, I wasn't thinking about FM. Because there is a limited demographic for the "Route 66" format, I was thinking of one of the AM stations, probably one of the lower-powered ones. Of course, I'd love to see 1250 carry that format, but it'll never happen.
