Why do PDs jump on some singles but not others?

A whopping two people. Writing an entire article filled with nothing except for random people's tweets has to be one of the laziest forms of journalism possible.
There are a few sites that do that somewhat regularly. They'll post a question on a site like Reddit, claim it went "viral" and they'll create an article basically listing out the most interesting/creative/shocking, etc. responses. Usually the title of the "article" is more "click bait" than anything, with a title like "We asked people to list out their (insert subject here) and you'll be SHOCKED at the responses".
