Why do we not hear???????

In Hungary, there was a major river cruise accident, killing scores of South Korean tourists.
There is an on going attempt to retrieve bodies. Aston Kutcher was in court testifying about
the murder of a woman he was about to date. In Chile, extremely rare tornadoes have
caused major destruction in Conception and Los Angeles.
These are but three newsworthy stories not shown by major networks and probably cable
news outlets as well. Instead, we get the same repetitive news again and again and again.
I happen to subscribe to Australian, British, Canadian and South African news feeds.
They all reported the above stories and far, far more newsworthy world events.

What has happened to American News Media????
Why have the major news broadcast and cable news organisations
become so slanted in their reporting???
Why do we not hear of these and other important world news events?

Because television news is vapid and online click-chasing will never highlight these sorts of things.

If this was 20 years ago, these stories would probably all have appeared in your newspaper in the briefs section. Maybe the Kutcher thing would have been on the celebrity news page. Probably similar when Headline News still existed and they aired a 2-minute world news roundup twice an hour. Even today, I would love to have a good newspaper delivered to my door. But alas, my local paper is a Gannett property so it doesn't even qualify as decent, let alone good.

BBC News, Al Jazeera, AP News and Reuters are covering the stories mentioned here.

Sometimes your PBS or NPR affiliate will air international stories from BBC News though. The issue here is that US cable news talk networks have to cater a certain audience and that's lobbyists, superpacs, their donors and politicians on both national and state level this is why they always talk about the 2020 elections before the rest of the general public even knows about this.

With the Ashton Kutcher Court Appearance Los Angeles TV Outlets and TMZ had to have discussed that one though.

Also there is a Typhoid Outbreak in Los Angeles where the reported victims so far are Los Angeles Police Officers. Note this outbreak is only being seen in Southern California so far and the local outlets are citing the city of Los Angeles and the health inspectors from California over this report. That is not getting national attention for now until other states get hit or it becomes a political issue like measles is getting today.

Lots of valid points. I'll be sure to watch PBS Newhour in lieu of the major networks.
The "mainstream" media has declined to the point, for many, like myself, they are
no longer plausible or watchable. Has American culture, American morals and standards,
degenerated to the point we are a debased society????

That's why I am highly reliant on the BBC service that my cable system provides in its "news cluster". I was able to follow the Indian elections, have a good understanding of Brexit, know about the 8.0 Peruvian earthquake, was amazed by Dutertes further statements about "cures" for gays and lots, lots more. I also appreciated several features about the uses, sourcing and importance of rare earths in the context of the China - US trade war.

The US "news channels" were going non-stop about impeachment, redaction, cover-ups and plots. It's a soap opera with too many chapters.

It depends. Keep in mind the term "mainstream media" has been co-opted by a political ideology. If you're applying that term to the cable news channels, there is nothing mainstream about any of them. They are targeted like music formats of radio stations.

I actually heard about the Peruvian earthquake on Facebook many hours before I heard it on any local news station. La Mega 101.7 (910-AM) has a Peruvian show on Sundays mornings and the host of the show posted on the station's Facebook Page "Pray for the victims of the Peruvian Earth Quake.". I wasn't until sometime last Sunday afternoon did I see it on the Facebook page of NBC Connecticut.

Here is another story not getting national attention but in some states like Washington State, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming are getting bad air quality issues due to wildfires from Canada.

The story is being confined to the states getting the spare the air alerts and Canada where the fires are taking place. The reality here is that so far the local news outlets have responded to the issue.

The Hungarian boat accident was the second story in the NBC Nightly News tonight. A day late, but it was covered.

I swear I saw that story several evenings ago on ABC. I remember it because our next door neighbors are currently on a river trip over there and my wife wanted to know what tour company was involved. It didn't turn out to be there's fortunately.

The way they cover news these days, the major broadcast and cable news channels don't
need to worry about Russian interference in American Politics and the election. They are
all doing a fine job of altering reality and our democracy.......

In case you missed it, the Russian interference comes through unregulated social media.

If you've ever seen it, it looks very different from anything on broadcast or cable.

I disagree with that statement. What "news" today has become meaningless, video-friendly segments intended to appeal to the under-informed. Stories about the budget, bills in the legislature, business dealings by the well connected and smoke filled political back rooms have been replaced by house fires, auto accidents and human interest stories.

You make it sound as though this is something new. It's not.

I did not mean to suggest it is new. In fact, I think in a post long, long ago about the introduction of "Happy News" on WABC-TV in Noo Yawk I suggested we were on a downward spiral into nonsense news.
