Why do we not hear???????

I did not mean to suggest it is new. In fact, I think in a post long, long ago about the introduction of "Happy News" on WABC-TV in Noo Yawk I suggested we were on a downward spiral into nonsense news.

I remember that this was when ABC Moved Roger Grimsby from KGO-TV San Francisco in the late 1960's to WABC-TV where Al Primo introduced happy talk to NYC Audiences for Eyewitness News/ Newsscene and Russ Coughlin the then KGO-TV GM put Van Amburg and Jerry Jensen to take over Roger Grimsby's San Francisco seat to do the same thing in San Francisco until the 1980's.

In Hungary, there was a major river cruise accident, killing scores of South Korean tourists.
There is an on going attempt to retrieve bodies. Aston Kutcher was in court testifying about
the murder of a woman he was about to date. In Chile, extremely rare tornadoes have
caused major destruction in Conception and Los Angeles.
These are but three newsworthy stories not shown by major networks and probably cable
news outlets as well. Instead, we get the same repetitive news again and again and again.
I happen to subscribe to Australian, British, Canadian and South African news feeds.
They all reported the above stories and far, far more newsworthy world events.

What has happened to American News Media????
Why have the major news broadcast and cable news organisations
become so slanted in their reporting???
Why do we not hear of these and other important world news events?

https://allafrica.com/stories/201906140716.html

There is a major abuse scandal in Africa involving an American humanitarian. Note this story is not on CNN, Fox and MSNBC for now one Sinclair news and major African news outlets are discussing this story for now. In the abuse allegations she is investigated for not being a doctor too.

As of this posting there is a measles scare but that is not getting national attention its only being covered in the cities where the Measles scare took place.

In the case of Samoa its being covered in international outlets.

That's why I am highly reliant on the BBC service that my cable system provides in its "news cluster". I was able to follow the Indian elections, have a good understanding of Brexit, know about the 8.0 Peruvian earthquake, was amazed by Dutertes further statements about "cures" for gays and lots, lots more. I also appreciated several features about the uses, sourcing and importance of rare earths in the context of the China - US trade war.

The US "news channels" were going non-stop about impeachment, redaction, cover-ups and plots. It's a soap opera with too many chapters.

Even Mass Shootings don't get national attention in some cases. The only time the Cable News/talk channels talk about mass shootings is whenever the NRA leaders have ranted on the campaign trail though. Yes there was a mass shooting in Chicago but it was wall to wall only in Illinois though.

Hear, Hear! Not trying to sound British, but I am a fan of the BBC, which actually provides world-wide news coverage.

The Voice of America still covers world news as well. Its shortwave service may be 1/10 of what it used to be, but their website is excellent, and offers audio and video feeds.

CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News are all dealing with one story: Trump.

I wonder what they're going to do when he eventually goes away.

CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News will focus on Mike Pence if Trump is removed? Or whovever is elected in 2020 and start making speculations on the 2022 and 2024 elections before the rest of the USA knows this??

Yes at the time of post they were on local news outlets and not national though.
I don't watch local news. I read the newspaper, I hear Mike Moss on America's Best Music (though not for the next week or so as I find places to listen to Christmas music) and there is "Wait! Wait!" on NPR.

As of this posting there is a reported mass shooting in the Dallas area but so far the coverage is wall to wall in Texas. If this mass shooting were to be on Cable news/talk channels it would most likely be in the form of the NRA leaders making a rant over the shooting though.

In case you missed it, the Russian interference comes through unregulated social media.

If you've ever seen it, it looks very different from anything on broadcast or cable.

In 2020 there are now allegations of Chinese interference, Privacy Violations, and Data Collections over Tik Tok App that promoted the Pentagon to ban the Tik Tok app/website on Pentagon issued devices. This was reported on Various Youtube pundits, TMZ, NY Times and Washington Post. Yes these 4 outlets have different audiences but they understand that the younger audiences are using this outlet though. This was covered while traditional TV outlets were talking about the 2020 Primaries, Iran and the Senate Impeachment. This is a sign that we have to diversify our sources when looking for topics.

My Take here is that Cable News didn't cover Tik Tok's data collection, privacy and allegations of political interference is that most of their Audience don't use this outlet though they might use Twitter and Facebook but that is it. Yes even Social Media is formatted to a certain demo.

THere are stories of outbreaks around the world such as the China Corona Virus outbreak and the Congo Measles deaths these stories are not seen outside of BBC News and Al Jazeera though.

The Chinese Corona Virus story aired on the national evening news Saturday evening.

Mainly because Megan is American, but this is more in the celebrity gossip section of the news. (Is that actually news???)

You could argue that it isn't news on this side of the pond even though Meagan is involved. The Royals have always been of some interest over here even though our ancestors tossed them out two centuries ago. Meagan's joining the royal family got a ton of modern Americans interested again apparently.

Considering that the last Royal to abandon the family for his (American divorcee wife) was Edward VIII in 1936 this is something that is quite rare in the UK and naturally would be of interest to those citizens. For American media it is something out of a fairy book story.

Having spent some time in the UK years ago I can attest the British media's obsession with the royals. Their newsstands are filled with what we would call yellow journalism and lewd stories. I would not have blamed either one had they kicked some of those obnoxious media types in the berries.

There is also a lot of that in American tabloids and gossip magazines as well.
