Why does almost everything South Central tries

Doug - How could South Central be so successful? Great question. Especially when SC is behind the times when compared to such riveting broadcasters like Crumy.

Case in point:

T0DAY, my lovely wife was even laughing at how 'progressive' Crums has gotten. Sure 'nough WTN ran a "live and local" weather forecast by Tim Ross a full 51-1/2 weeks in advance for next year's Memorial Weekend. You guessed it --- It's gonna be cool on the Thursday before and gradually warm up into the 90's by Monday. Amazingly, they ran that today, Tuesday, May 31, 2011, before 10A this morning.

Couldn't possibly have been a forecast from last week since there are no lethargic radio stations in Nashville. See there's just no way SC could venture out that far...it would do Lisa Patten in to try to predict weather a full 52 weeks out...but it appears as if Crumulus has a crystal weather ball. A decisive victory for America's most innovative radio mavericks.

You haven't heard the news, Tibbs2?

That's a new add-on to the Cumulus "Stratus" in-house traffic/billing/music scheduling/taxidermy/(and now looooong distance weather-prognosticating) suite of products!

They're such innovators at the Big Fluffy Cloud Company...

Interestingly enough, 97.1 played "In the Midnight Hour" (at least) twice back-to-back today during the 1:00 p.m. hour. May have been more times than that, but that is what I heard. Interesting because not too long ago, they ran "Piano Man" two or three times in a row on a Monday afternoon. Only that was under the previous afternoon announcer, Lisa Lewis. This time, it was Jay Patrick who did it.

I've noticed many repeats back-to-back as well. A couple weeks ago I left 97.1 playing in my office while I stepped out for a few minutes and came back in and the interns all went, "Change the song!!!" I told them it was the radio and then realized it was the same song as when I had left nearly 10 minutes earlier. This is a big reason SC does so well. How many times to you hear a SC or CC station mess up? Not very often. On the other hand, turn on WPRT, WSM-FM, WNFN, or WRQQ just on the ride home alone today and I can nearly guarantee some time of technical screw-up. It's frustrating. If SC and CC can get it together, why can't everyone else?

do you guys think this is computer glitches..or operator error?? i've had my software load a different song..but then it plays the one i just played over again..not often..maybe once every 3 or 4 months...always seems to do it when your out of the room..lol..like putting on Macarthur Park..heading to the john..only to hear the needle stick as soon as you sit down...

Could be a bit of both.. Speaking of WPRT, last week I heard them run a RWT test 3 times last week. Once it was the test from NWS Weather Radio, and twice it was just the regular header and EOM codes

Big A, our resident exclusive radio expert on these boards, wants me to remind you that you are all being unfair to these stations and there is still no visible sign of lethargic radio in Nashville.

Sounds like in 97.1's case that someone remerged the log in the middle of the day and didn't immediately go in the control room to recue the studio system. That's what happens when you cheap everything out and do a lot of crapomation...errr...automation and voicetracking in middays when heaven forbid somebody might actually be listening to the radio outside of drivetime.

While we are talking about 97.1, isn't it about time for Cumulus to flip the format again? As I've come to your area to visit my sister in Gallatin, I've noticed over the years that they change formats on that frequency more often than I flip my mattress.

Shhhhh, most of us are halfway liking what they are doing now! (But I still wish that they would can Bob & Tom!)

Something on Mix 92.9 that (for me, anyway) just did NOT work was the "Monday sucks" routine that they aired last Monday morning. The song was "Monday sucks," sung to the tune of the Mickey Mouse theme song.

"M-O-N-D-A-Y S-U-C-K-S!
Monday sucks!
Monday sucks!"

Only problem for me was that they bleeped out "sucks," this after spelling it out just seconds before! How stupid do they think we are? I know it's supposedly a "family" station, but if it's a "family" station, then why play that routine at all? Just skip it if you can't play it unedited. No need in insulting my intelligence!

Wow. They're better off playing that "History of the F-Word" bit! Hey, does Mix 92.9 also play Cee-Lo Green's "(Forget) You," too? (They might want to ponder it after falling to third place!)

At any rate, if it's anything other than Rupert Holmes' "Escape" airing on Mix, I'm all for it!

Yes, on Cee-low ratings. And Rupert is parked. What does that tell you? DtotheJ lives EVERYWHERE! Glad at least someone noticed the publishable numbers. Rocks got strange momentum in 2011. Remember summers are rough on AC and it's interesting to look at all
the numbers and see how much of an effect Classic this or that really adds up to! RQQ hits a three?!? Amazing. (Mac, freshen it up again a bit).

With monthly trends, and the such, SC will not panic.. Very calm group.. In Nashville, Knoxville and their flagship market up in Evansville.... I remember the only time they lost a paper-book in their two book a year market of Evansville.. A few adjustments and J.D. Engelbrecht and the gang (who won every daypart in their prime and secondary demographics) had it back in one book... They stayed calmed... They did bring in new blood with a strong and community oriented PD... Best group of radio people I've ever had the pleasure of working with.... They like having a couple of valued stations in Nashville, then four or so beatin' each other up!

I heard them play Brass In Pocket by the Pretenders THREE times in a row once, a month and a half ago. Maybe they should do it more often since their ratings have gone up the last three books. I'm happy for them, I like to see the underdogs do good. Congrats to Mac and Company and Cumulas on a job well done!

I just saw this today, a month after it was posted. Proving that if a tree falls in a forest, and no one's around, it doesn't make a sound.

I wonder why everyone's using this as an excuse to bash the big guys, and no one's addressing the original topic.

I was just playin Big A. Most, if not all of my humor, doesn't come off as such.

P.S. When have "we" ever really addressed anything on here? What was the original question?

FWIW - "Brass in Pocket's" triple play may have helped Mac get RQQ a 6+ 25-54 number in the last few weeks. Hmm. Can't Nock em for that showing. Can't Nock em for that showing. Can't Nock em for that showing.
