i just moved to melbourne and the stations here are terrible easy listening and christian and country no hip hop no dance and fifty hit music stations melbourne orlando really needs to revamp cause theres mad format gaps here anyone know of any changes coming soon>

Radio in Orlando has become some of the blandest, most boring crap I've heard in years. Of course, the same is true damn near all over the country, but it's painfully obvious here. Owners that don't want to challenge the status quo or who hate to spend a buck to make 5 bucks, PDs and MDs that are too happy to copy what people are doing in other markets and a bunch of voice-tracked swill stinking up the place. Sad, innit?

Actually for the most part it is low-paid PDs and MDs who aren't really being given much freedom by corporate. Same result, but not because the people are lazy or lacking talent.

Bahahahahaha, hope your earbuds sound good on your iPhone/Droid.

Fortunately, with an outdoor antenna, the stations from Miami, Tampa / St. Pete, and Jacksonville come in very well in Melbourne / Palm Bay. I lived there four years, central Florida has some of the best DX'ing in the country. I had a Pioneer Supertuner in my car, and I could pick up 50 to 60 stations at all times. In the late evening after thunderstorms, virtually every frequency was packed.

I don't think we have it that bad here. Sure, radio isn't what it was, and never will be, but we've got some good stations here. To me, 1059 Sunny FM is hands down the best station I have heard in years. XL 1067 is a heritage CHR that still sounds great, even if much of the content is VT'd. If you can get Max 98.3 out of Lakeland, it is one of the few Variety Hits stations that seems to truly "play it all". We still have talent and programmers in this city, despite the state of the industry.

Good call on Max, possibly the best station in all of peninsular FL right now.

Hello. I lived in palm bay and understand what you mean. I would not rule out all central florida radio as bad. For hip hop the closest thing I can recommend to you is 102.3 from west palm. I don't know how well 102.3 does in Melbourne. I think it was drivable in palm bay but not all that well. Sorry for the OT here but you got me going on reception. :) I can't remember how 105.9 did in Melbourne but I have yet to ride in a car with someone and have 105.9 be drivable in palm bay. Trust me, I had to put an antenna set up a certain way in my room when i lived in palm bay to hear o-rock back in the days and even then it rarely was in stereo on my Phillips stereo. My dad is an electrition and he told me good luck on 105.9 in palm bay with what I was working with. I will say one thing about that area it was an awesome dxing area. Carolina was in almost every night in the summer. So was jacksinville and miami and a few other areas. If you're looking for hip hop try 102.3 or get a satelite radio or smart phone. I'd say either verizon or at&t for that area. Sprint's network is not very developed in that area. Good luck. Sorry about the off topic stuff but I love talking about the radio and DXing. :)

When I am over in Polk County visiting the in-laws I definately tune in Max. BUT, I am not sure I could take it all day, every day. After a day or so I am punching buttons again looking for something else. It is different and fun to listen to FOR AWHILE! Are any of you guys heaping praise on Max local listeners?? Just curious.
