Why does CHUM-FM have a short playlist?

I'm not quite sure why CHUM-FM has a short playlist. They claim to have "bigger and better variety", but I don't see it. I believe most Hot AC's have big playlists, so why doesn't CHUM? CHFI has a bigger library, but that's mostly because all AC stations have it.

So, what you'd like to see is a no repeat work day or something?
That would do well for CHUM FM!
Your guess is as good as mine. I wish I had an answer!
I think they're just trying to "play it safe".

Haha that would be nice, but I doubt that would happen. You would have to think that with CHUM's heritage status in Toronto, it would have a bigger playlist (that may not make sense, but i tried haha). I checked the archives of the site back in '06 and '07 and they had a MUCH BIGGER playlist, including not just rhythmic material they have now, but also plenty of 80s and 90s music. Now, its "Back In The Day Double Play" (which I love!), then 45 minutes of non-stop currents and some minor 80s and 90s. When did they start phasing out a lot of rock (John Mayer, DMB, etc.)?

Well, first of all, the station was sold. It is no longer in the hands of the Waters family. Alan Waters passed away in 2005. A few years later, the whole Chum group company was sold to CTV. (some properties went to Rogers)

Bell, being the new owner, (parent company of CTV inc) is most likely cookie cutting a short playlist for CHUM FM that can be heard in many markets rather than caring about proper music tests in the Toronto market.
(That's just a guess...)

I do remember when it was sold to CTV. That was a big shake up! And you're probably right about the cookie cutter playlist. Kool in Calgary is the same way. But, I do like the way they do Hot AC. Yes, the vital rock material is missing, but the great rhythmic stuff they play...I can listen all day to any of their Hot ACs!
