Why does Cumulus insist on keeping those translators going?

"I don't always listen to the radio, but when I do, it's neither of those two. Radio has gone to the cats."

I thought Q100 Top 20 was pulling a 0.3-0.5 or thereabouts...

I don't know why Walk is still around with an 0.1, unless it's billing well. I know a lot of fundies who won't listen because it's too secular.

Journey, Bone, and [email protected] were the best performing formats. Bone has moved on to 100.5 and 99X wouldn't now get what they were getting since we now have Radio 105.7. But why not bring back Journey, AGH, or TOC?

They should put Rhythmic on one of the translators - no?
Seems like it wouldn't be a bad fit for a signal and it would be good to combo sell with Q, but a more unique format than Q100 20.
Only problem I have with Classic Hits is that it wouldn't be a good combo sell with anyone-except maybe AN and (less likely) Kicks, while the current formats fit well with the cluster and likely lead to more value-added buys.

The problem with Classic Hits on a translator IMO is that your audience is going to tend to be further away from the city, where the translator signal can't reach

Rhythmic on a translator seems like a no-brainer - there's a hole in the market, and most of your target audience is near or inside the perimeter - and then there's the added bonus of potentially eating into Power's ratings, which Cumulus is trying to do anyway

I'm surprised Q100 20 @ 97.9FM isn't pulling any better numbers because at least they play more music & the breaking hits on there. 98.9, on the other hand, might could even pull off a Bob, Chuck, Jack, or such type of all over format. Curious to know what type of online #'s these two stations are getting.

River says they're classic hits, but they're really classic rock. And have become more so as Rock100.5 has gotten away from classic/heritage rock. River (and Rock100.5 for that matter) has gotten harder, deeper, and newer with time.

Cumulus needs to try Classic Hits/AGH again. AGH had a 3.0 on 106.7 before flipping to All News. In fact, all of Cumulus' Classic Hits stations pull in decent numbers. Up the road on I-75, Big 107.9 in Chattanooga has a 4.5. Cumulus launched a Classic Hits station in Santa Barbara a couple months ago so its not like new ones don't still pop up.

Radio gurus (like us) want breaking hits and more new music - Atlanta CHR listeners want familiar hits, which is why Q100 does as well here as it does, and beats out Power, Star, and its own more liberal sister station Q100/20

Those of you who want Classic Hits - do you all live close to the city, where the translator would reach? (Just curious, cause I think that was the problem with Journey)

I'm not in the market but listen quite often to 98.9 The Walk via iHeart radio. But I'm out of the Atlanta market, although we travel through the area frequently.

My wife likes Christian music and I like country. When we travel we will start out listening to K-Love
until we either lose the signal or the slow songs put me to sleep. So we end up switching to country stations.

I used to really like Kicks 101.5 but was disappointed the last couple if times we went through.

So I am in the minority but I like 98.9.

Huh? ???

It never got higher than a 0.5 share, most of the time less than that

I wouldn't call it a huge following, but Journey was probably the best rated format on any of the Cumulus translators.

I live in Marietta/E. Cobb and can pick up 97.9 and 98.9 when I'm driving around fine. Even on my receiver inside the house (97.9 comes in stronger).

I think nobody even know they exist. A Rhythmic could work, but every Rhythmic station we've had was total crap, except the first era of WiLD 96.7.

99x at 97.9 had either a .7 or .9 with a cume between 250,000 and 275,000. They lost quite a bit when they moved to 99.1 and then to 98.9.

Even if they are disasters ratings wise, Cumulus will keep them just so nobody else can have them.
They make a good "lab" for testing new formats.

Reminds me of our old friend BRENT! :p

I think an oldies/classic hits style station would work grand on one of the rim shots; 106.1 or 107.1. Both currently country but reach Atlanta.

...and both are VERY popular as country stations in North Ga. I'd like to hear some oldies, too, but I don't think you're gonna get it out of those two stations.
