Why does Directv offer so much duplicate programming on different channels?

Such as MASH, on three different channels at various times today, sometime overlapping. Law&Order, also on atleast two different channels, often overlapping. The Rich Eisen sports show can be seen on three different directv channels. Also on sports, The Dan Patrick Show is on multiple channels. Mind you, this is just on the basic directv lineup. Seems to me this does nothing to offer viewers with directv a variety of channels.

The rights to many shows are on multiple channels. MASH is on TVLAND along with Sundance and AMC. I think Sundance and AMC are sister networks. The Golden Girls are on TVLAND and Logo along with Hallmark Channel. TVLAND and Logo are sister networks. Last Man Standing is on Freeform, CMT, and Hallmark Channel. Roseanne is on CMT, Logo, and TVLAND. All 3 are sister networks. Mary Tyler Moore is on Sundance and Ovation. Reba is on Freeform and CMT. There are like 2000 different incarnations of Law and Order and the rights to them are on multiple channels - USA, TNT, ION, WE - does My Network TV still show reruns too? Plus some shows are on local channels as well. Locally one of the Law and Order Shows is on Monday-Friday on Channel 59. 2 Broke Girls reruns air locally on Channel 20 and on TBS on satellite. Big Bang Theory reruns are on locally on Channel 61 and on TBS on satellite. Mike & Molly locally on Channel 20. FX on satellite. 2 and a Half Men. Locally on 61 and on FX on satellite.

IN the case of Dan Patrick and Rich Eisen are on the Audience Network. Audience is carried on Channels 101 and 239. (Maybe another channel too). Other channels are duplicated as well.

QVC is on 70, 275, 317.
QVC 2 is on 76, 79, and 315.
Evine is on 73 and 316.

Other shopping channels and infomercial networks are duplicated too.

We just created a new "favorites" list and blocked the duplicated channels along with the infomercials channels, and religious channels.

I believe that the duplicate programming is Directv's way of
confusing and confounding it's customers. Otherwise, they
might begin to understand how much they are overpaying for
such garbage.................

no different than Dish. They do the same thing with their shopping channels....duplicate them in at least 1 spot...some twice

But it is easy to delete shopping channels in your favorite list. More complicated with sometime duplicates, sometime not. I agree that cable programmers are the preliminary deciders, but Directv can correct this. I think they must have some separate contracts with these channels, otherwise, why would they offer so much duplication? I will likely not renew after my initial promo period unless they can offer more variety on their basic package.
