Why does Jack need a morning show?

I know I have ranted about this before, but after reading this morning that tracy Johnson is really going ahead with this million dollar thing, it bears repeating. Why does Jack need some big morning show? Jack is all about the wide variety of music. I am thoroughly enjoying listening to Jack on my way to work, and while working out in the gym. I love the mix of music, and Greg and Sarah are providing just the right amount of talking between the music sets. Why can't it stay this way? Why do we need yet another gaggle of cackling morons gumming up the airwaves during one of the two times per day that I listen to the radio?

You're right.
But I think this has more to do with the loss of Jeff and Jer, than the need to have a show at all at a Jack station. And I think, but for Jeff and Jer, they probably would not have even worried about it.

And it's a good book, EVERYONE SHOULD READ IT!

No. But he's got the right idea.
He is resposible for Dave Smiley in the morning, and Jagger and Kristi.

Also, he heavily revamped 100.7 around the same lines. It's good reading!
I've learned much from the different portions of the book I've looked at, but I've never read the whole thing through. All of the managers and programmers at the stations down here in Lubbock could learn a thing, or 3 or 4 from it. Heck, it should be required reading!

It's a pretty good book. But Dave Smiley?
I hope there are other examples.

That's an example I threw out, not in the book.
Some people like Dave, some don't.
He was a good night time jock in my opinion.

His morning show talent is in the eye of the beholder. Definately not to everyone's taste. But I will say this,he used to work very hard.

Answer: because you need something to justify higher rates in morning drive.
______________

I was just thinking, Tracey Johnson has opened the door for several of the morning shows on in San Diego currently. Jagger & Kristy (92.5), Jeff & Jer (94.1), Eddie (105.3), Jen (95.7), Chris Cantore (91.1). I would say, Tracey has been a leader in growing talent and turning DJs into pretty good morning shows.

If that's the case, then why don't all jack stations across the country have big cackling morning shows? If you're projecting yourself as the alternative to all of the other formulaic stations out there, and your listenership is based on the music you play, why alienate your core audience during the most important time of the day? Look, I know that they need to justify charging their advertisers higher rates during morning drive, but I can state categorically that once the music goes away during the mornings, my wife and I are two people who will never hear those higher priced ads on Jack because we won't be listening. I suspect that we aren't the only ones out there who are enjoying the refreshing sound of music on the radio without the annoyance of moronic banter. don't get me wrong, I am by no means anti dj, but dj's have become entirely too full of the sound of their own voices. they now talk incessantly about nothing, and jack has proven to be a welcomed change from that trend. Greg and Sarah are just perfect in mornings IMHO. they give you the traffic, the weather, chat for a little bit about what's going on in SD and then get back to the music which is what Jack is all about anyway, isn't it? I guess I'm ranting over nothing, because whether I like it or not, Jack will soon no longer be an outlet for music in the morning. maybe I will have to buy an I-Pod afterall if I want to hear music, the exact thing that jack is supposed to be combatting. Ironic, isn't it!

Because they're not run by Tracy Johnson.
______________
