Why does LPB DTV carry CC's WFMF audio?

Can anyone tell me why LPB has the audio of WFMF Baton Rouge on the #2 audio channel of their -1 channel statewide? It's not on the -3 or HD-5 channel but it is on -1 which is LPB/PBS. I have noticed this for several months and do not approve. PBS and LPB receive federal funds and viewer contributions and should not be broadcasting WFMF in every city where they are broadcasting their DTV signals. I thought it might have something to do with a tower sharing arrangement or something, maybe something to do with LPB's flagship station being in B.R. like FMF, but I'm only guessing.

Regardless of the reason, I'll be contacting PBS and LPB to tell them they should not be helping Clear Channel to promote their stations and demand the removal of any and all Clear Channel audio from their DTV signals.

On that subject, would anyone be aware of a current Louisiana DTV station index? I read the deadline for the top 100 markets was 7/01/05 to broadcast a DTV signal and all the other markets had a deadline of 7/01/06. Most New Orleans stations except for WLAE 32, a partial LPB affiliate, are on. I know that in the last 3 weeks KALB TV 5 in Alexandria (NBC) began broadcasting DTV with weather info on a subchannel. KADN 15 in Lafayette is on with an HD DTV signal. WNTZ 48 Natchez/Alexandria is on with a SD signal. I read awhile back that 7 KPLC's (Lake Charles) management seemed to be dragging their feet on their signal. LPB is also going to launch another subchannel soon, but I have no info on when. Are all Louisiana stations broadcasting a DTV signal?

Thanks.

WFMF is a primary station of the Louisiana EAS System. The other LPB stations act as relay stations to the other primary stations in the rest of the state.

One thousandth of one half of one percent of the population would have been able to receive this signal. And now we find that it's there as a public service! I don't work for Clear, I don't own stock, I don't even listen to their stations, but the world needs us to feed the poor, clothe the naked, defend the defenseless, etc. Can't we channel (pun intended) our energies inward and work towards a positive vision for the future? Every time you want to bash Clear, take a dollar out of yr wallet and give it to Katrina relief, the Food Bank, whatever!

Respectfully, man, I've read your posts and you are not some kind person spreading love, enlightenment and wisdom on the internet, so get off your high horse! Don't give me some b.s. about CC feeding the poor and clothing the naked, I worked for that monster of a company. I could tell you about rigged contests, falsified affadavits, promotions interns sending memos to on-air for phony airchecks for Spanish language cds for school, not to mention DVDs for them to take home to their family. How much did Cheap Channel contribute to Katrina victims or to food banks? 0

That is about the most ignorant statements I've ever read on this website, and that's up against some stiff competition. Public television was required to broadcast DTV signals before commercial stations. LPB has strong signals in Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Alexandria, Shreveport, and Monroe. 32WLAE is a partial affiliate in New Orleans.

One thousandth of one half of one percent???!!! ABSURD! ALMOST EVERYONE IN THE STATE CAN GET THEIR SIGNAL.

Maybe you haven't heard about DTV or High Definition, but as of next March, all TVs will be required to have a digital tuner and in March 2009 ALL TV STATIONS WILL CEASE THEIR ANALOG SIGNALS.
You bash cds in one of your threads, but are ignorant of current technology. :-[

So anyone with children who are watching Mr. Rogers or other kids programming can hit the #2audio button and get WFMF with their murderous hip-hop music and hear about bitches, blunts and bling-bling.

CC is a commercial entity and should not be piggybacking on LPB statewide.

I'm sure there is a way for LPB to monitor their EAS stations without broadcasting hip-hop music on their #2 audio channel statewide. Even if I'm wrong about that, I don't want a Clear Channel station on my PBS/LPB channel and I'll also inform parents rights groups and religious nuts that their kids can hear murderous hip-hop music while watching childrens shows on LPB. I bet I can find a few influential people who will agree with me, even if they don't work in radio or TV. 8)

Thanks for the info. However, to think that a Clear Channel station shoulders the responsibility for the statewide EAS alerts should unnerve most of the population. Empty control rooms with voicetracking and a hip-hop station responsible for the Louisiana EAS System???!!!

March 9, 2005: In a company wide meeting with all on-air staff and GMs Jim Owen and Carla Boatner present (Clear Channel New Orleans) the chief engineer of CCNO announced that most of the Clear Channel New Orleans stations had not broadcast and logged the EAS alerts in over a year. It was stated that in the case of Q93, the control panel was underneath a mountain of paper and most of the 7 New Orleans Clear Channel stations had not broadcast and logged the EAS alerts IN OVER ONE YEAR.
