Why does my 104.3 do better then star 98.7 did?

I mean the format was the same why does my 104.3 do better then star did???I thought star had better personalities. I liked jamie amd danny in the morning. Except when richard blade did his 80s show it was all the safe 80s hits it made it painful to listen to. Just wondering when both station had the same format why does my 104.3 do so much better???

I also thought 104.3 was much more interesting to listen to then what it is today.Anyone remember thump radio??? 98.7 is fine to listen to today but i think kroq is the better of the two stations. Better personalities and specialty shows.

98.7's Modern/Hot AC days were rated by diary. 104.3, which is basically the same format as Star was, is rated by PPM today.
It has been proven that pop stations do significantly better under PPM than diary, which could explain why Star 98.7 was not as strong as 104.3 in the ratings.
In addition, it seems that 104.3 as of recently has been adding swaying more towards Adult CHR, with more current and recurrent CHR titles.
There was a clear distinction between the music Star 98.7 would play and what KIIS would play. Now the distinction seems to be gone between the two stations.

Star, in its Alternative AC days was vastly more edgy alternative while KBIG is very smooth and rhythmic.

Personalities, in the model of a talky afternoon show like Seacrest had at Star, don't work at all well in PPM.

KBIG is very mainstream young adult hits, while Star was a fringe format that always seemed to have been selected to fit the non-Wilson signal.

Wow, so there are a lot of people like me who flip the station as soon as he (or others like him) starts babbling the nonsense claptrap in the afternoon, when what we really tuned in for is music - and PPM smoked that behavior out. Who knew?

Yep. But the diary was a measurement* of memory, while the PPM measures behaviour. We "remembered" listening to a station in the afternoon; we actually tuned in and out many times, or went away after an annoying and long bit...

* Subject to the limitations of the sample, bla, bla, bla. ;D

Musically, I think KBIG's Adult CHR take on Hot AC, which is happening not only in LA but in many markets, is a much better fit for their audience. Hot AC has moved away from their 80s intensive playlists and is including rhythmic artists and songs that are attracting younger women who grew up listening to more Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears than Pat Benetar.

All of the other points made, though- KBIG has a better signal, the station is less personality driven than Star, we're looking at this comparision in an age of PPM versus diaries- are all important factors. Ratings at Hot ACs that are taking the same approach as KBIG are up in many markets- as Hot AC has become the de facto CHR in many markets where CHR is now exclusively or heavily rhythmic. It makes even more sense in our market, where the ethnic composition is far less white than in Omaha or Charlotte.

I liked star 98.7 when they had ryan and lisa and then lisa and jason i liked the afternoon show ;D It was great when clear channel wasnt trying to syndicate anything and everything!!!

Sad
