WHY DOES NASCAR HAVE TO BE ON OLDIES 1067?

Nascar goes back to when the station was country and they have to honor the contract and it is for 106.7 NOT 101.5 Who knows what will happen in the future but again be thankful for your True Oldies station. 8)

Geez, Brent, do you do anything besides whine? The world isn't perfect. Businesses don't taylor their operations to what one person wants. Grow up already.

AMlover's right, YAY's honoring a contract they signed long in advance. I'm sorry that gets in the way of your fawning.

The better question is, why is NASCAR on radio to begin with?

Yeah because it's only one of the most watched and richest sports in America. What other sport draws crowd of 150,000 plus to a single event week after week?

Love it or hate it, it's HUGE money machine for a lot of people.

One thing to note. Oldies 106.7 does not carry the full coverage of the race. As soon as the race is over, they dump straight back to music. Most Nascar stations carry up to 2 hours or pre-race coverage including a post race call in show that can last up to 2 hours after the race. Some stations even carry the Nationwide,
Craftsman Truck races, and qualifying events.

Be glad that 106.7 does not carry all of it. However, if you are a NASCAR fan, you are missing all that coverage that you probably could get on ESPN2 or SPEED channels on cable.

Please answer? Oldies and Nascar do not mix. It should be on KICKS 101.5.

You got your lame format and still you are not happy? A few hours a week until a contract is done what is so wrong with that.

Alright guy's. All I did was to ask for an explanation, I did not know they had a contract, forgive me.

Apparently Brent has to have permission from a select group in order to complain on this board? Hey Clark: I wouldn't be calling people out. A quick scan through your recent posts doesn't show anything too positive either.

It's just not fair. Why do we have to put up with whiners? So Atlanta doesn't have Oldies 24/7. So Atlanta doesn't have Alt. Why complain without offering solutions? It's just not fair at all. Radio-Info should dump all whiny posts immediately - especially from whiners who sign up just to post complaints. It's just not fair, and I'm gonna tell my Mama. ::)

Really, Whit? I just went back over things myself on this board, and in my recent posts I've defended the Morning Mess, like what Stacey and Spoon bring to the table for Cindy and Ray, said that Nudge was still listed on Star94's website, generally like what the new Oldies station is doing, and think WNGC has much to gain from the demise of Eagle. That's "not too positive"?

On other boards, I've been critical of the Fairness Doctrine and the childishness that surrounds its discussion, another website where people critique TV news coverage, and generally played around on Off The Air.

I'm sorry if none of the above meet with your approval.

Meh. Just a thought.

A very simple answer to that question, it is the most popular sport and fastest growing sport in the country. the real answer is:

It makes MONEY $$$$$$$

And the making of money is (from the owners point of view) the ony reason the station is on the air. No owner in today's world gives a flip about your entertainment, they just want the MONEY

What I don't understand is based on one of his own posts Brent isa millionaire a couple of time over. Why doesn't he just buy Sat Radio and stop complaining about his needs for a local oldies channel that gets interuprted by God forbid Nascar. TrueOldies is basically a sat station over local airwaves save for some traffic reports and perhaps a soon to be named afternoon host who will just read some ihntro's andthat will be the extent of a big local presence.

It is a big money maker! It sells and I bet you they will renew it... If they don't pick it up somebody else will.

Anyone remember when the Atlanta freakin' Flames were on Beautiful Music WLTA (99.7)? Hockey and Radio Prozac Quaaludes. Yeah, they go together...

Point being, money is money and who cares whether there's synergy between a sportscast and the station's format. IMO oldies and NASCAR don't go together, but I am sure the money still stacks up together nicely in the till. 8)

You could say something similar with AAA Dave FM and the Falcons.

BTW: XM has a 50s channel, a 60s channel, a 70s channel, two classic rock channels (one 60s-70s and one 70s-80s), a disco channel (Chrome), and a freeform AOR channel, if you have that much of an oldies jones.

WYAY is a great station. I like what they are doing and I dont think the format is LAME!!! I would only add that radio now is a former shadow of its once great self. The business has changed , making money is VERY hard these days when XM has so many choices. Its true whats been said XM has almost every base covered.
Nascar is NOT a great money maker for any radio station, ask anyone who currently works in the business Nascar will guarantee you some listeners but it wont make you rich. True oldies is doing really well and is covering a wide base of Oldies, such as was not done with Fox 97, or Cool 105.7. At least Atlanta does have a Oldies station, for which many are happy. For those who are unhappy with the demise of ALT in the Big A, XM can serve those needs greatly. I recently bought my brother a XM reciever for his car and he is in LOVE with the deep tracks that he can hear there.

THE MOST EXCLUSIVE RADIO JOB ON THE PLANET ... NASCAR play-by-play (lap-by-lap ???) announcer!

There are only EIGHT jobs that exist right now - THERE'S a skill they don't teach at CSB!

When I moved to Atlanta, the thought of listening to a stock car race on radio sounded almost as exciting as GOLF on the radio, but I'm actually impressed with the guys on PRM and MRN - they make it interesting! Yes, I know .... my redneck credentials are in the mail, right? ;D
