Why Does NOW FM Trail Rivals

In your opinion why does KFRH NOW-FM have lower ratings than other CHR stations such as KVEG, KLUC and KPLV? Could it be...

Signal issues?

Too much new unfamiliar music?

Too much variety? Can CHRs that play "all the hits" from rock to hip hop succeed in this part of the country?

Under staffed?

Under marketed?

Or do you think it's a matter of still being relatively new and unestablished?

Simple: Content AND delivery. Both of which are sub-standard. the Signal is pure crap, almost AM-like and the "jack" approach to the music just doesn't pan out with the songs they play. confusing to listen to.

without hurting anyones feelings....... NOW 104.3 used to be NOW 102.7 for like 4 months, freq. change didn't help things, NOW does have a "NEW" morning show... if you can call it a show... not much in the way of promotions, street team, merch, hell I don't even think they have bumper stickers to hand out, let alone a van to cruise the streets. their website SUCKS, the NITE jock try's to be entertaining and LOCAL, I think the owner is in it only for the money, what ever money you can get from a station that has alot of competition from 98.5, 97.5.

also the "Elvis" impersonator in the mornings has 3 stations to "localize" with , SF, VEGAS, & Palm Spings.

oh, and the signal is on "automation" like 90% of the time, and they have started to use the "VO" for HOT 97.5 which really makes it confusing to the 4 or 5 listeners out their.

wondering why they don't boost the stick to more power or put a repeater to cover more airspace.

104.3 Now FM is just a dump. Period. They should've just stayed on 102.7 and stayed with Beasley (they sounded much better that time). They're NEVER going to beat 98.5 KLUC nor Hot 97.5. There are way too many flaws with that station, DJ Supajames is boring, the morning show sounds stupid - Elvis just makes an a** of himself on the air, they play hot AC tracks, and a lot more flaws. When are they even going to update the site? The "Last 6 Played" songs section has been saying "Coming Soon" for a while, and they don't even have contact info on their page.

Bravo, Ed Stolz. What a GREAT radio station you have.

They are currently a fully licenced class C station with the equivalent of 100KW located on the Mt. Potosi site with 6 other FM's giving them as good coverage as practical in the area and the greatest area coverd for this market. A "Repeater" which is called a Translator in FM broadcast service would not help them anywhere there is significant population that they do not already cover. In other words, they are already maxed out. Now they have to win with content and audio quality! I've seen stations with less power and worse coverage beat their higher powered competition often because they appeal to more people.

Wow, really? And they blew off quite a few local candidates well qualified and market savvy that "may" have made an impact.

OK, I guess you have to start questioning what Royce is up to. No PD, no clear direction musically, crappy sound courtesy of the inferior broadcast chain they rent from Beasley... At a time when radio is clearly suffering, why not go dark and push a proper product once you are fully ready? they add ZERO to the dial right now. I hear they are looking to build new studios an are actively looking at new space. I can only hope they are considering developing an airworthy product as well.

The new Royce VP/Programming is Robert Scorpio. He programmed stations in major markets such as LA, Houston, and DC. He has a rhythmic/hip hop background. I wonder if that's the direction NOW will move in?

Not only is NOW's signal bad, but the music is awful and there's no way they can compete with HOT and KLUC. There's no passion, personality, marketing, human element, etc

Its funny that the "Contests" and "Last 6 Played" sections of the site STILL says coming soon... which its been saying that since the station launched on August of last year.
