Why does V-102.5 sound like crap?

This is worse than The Wolf was about five weeks ago. What is making the audio sound
like they're playing songs from a 1971 generic cassette tape? All day, since this morning.
I'm sure it's a temp thing, but what is the problem? !

Having a "shot-up" satellite dish would explain the patchy come-and-go audio, but it would not explain why their programming sounds like it came from a 1971 cassette deck, as roadrunner said.

If it was a disgruntled former employee (as someone on the other thread said), they obviously have (Styx reference here) too much time on their hands. It would be a pain to drive ALL the way out to Charlotte, TN!

I say it was probably a drunken redneck!

Was anyone listening during the 5 o'clock flashback (or whatever they call it) yesterday? "Dancing in the Dark" sounded like it was recorded over a phone line! Terrible!

Well, if they "shot it up" to the point where it doesn't work at all, could be they're using a phone line (maybe a Comrex or something like that?) for a STL?

If it was a disgruntled ex-employee, I suppose they might have shot up the *transmitting* dish at the studio. But yes, I'd also be more likely to believe a drunken redneck shot it on the receive end north of Charlotte...

The station replaced the STL's 7/8" line with a new run today. They were on the air with a POTS Codec while the repairs were made. You just don't run down to Radio Shack and pick up 900' of line and a tower crew. You do what ya got to do to stay on the air. If you don't have an ISDN line or some sort of broadband circuit so you can get decent stereo audio to the site, you make due.

While they're at it, why don't they call the FCC and tell them drunk rednecks are forcing them to move their
antenna to the FAA unapproved Signature Tower and the FBI better get down here and find the sniper, along
with the TBI, BTF, ATF, CIA and all other three letter agencies that couldn't do a damn thing to help. I bet
those rednecks had imported untaxed cigarettes from KY. That alone will get them 15-life.

That still doesn't explain why one song sounds like crap, and the next one sounds better!

I agree with roadrunner, they might actually be better off signing off altogether, rather than running with an inferior signal. Yeah, I know ads have been sold, etc., but what if the crappy audio causes listeners to tune out?

When I first heard this constantly dropping out signal (last weekend), I thought it was something wrong with their satellite feed, and they might sound better once they were "local" again. But that wasn't the case.

They have sounded a little better (and much more listenable!) this weekend.

Just curious, which end? (studio or transmitter?)

Transmitter site ( Cumberland Furnace)
Cumberland Furnace, isn't that even further away from Nashville than Charlotte is? (And closer to Clarksville, too, I'm assuming.)

When you don't know where a station's transmitter site is located, how do you find out? Latitude and longitude lines mean nothing to me, unless I have a map I can plot them on.

And legal IDs mean nothing. V-102.5 gives their legal ID as Pegram (where I live), but as many of you have said, their transmitter site is nowhere near me. I will say, however, that they have a presence in Pegram. They have come out here a few times to do remotes. I have one of their bumper stickers (which I found on the ground! ;D), and their DJs have gotten their photos taken and printed in the South Cheatham Advocate newspaper (www.scadvocate.com)

Have you ever tried google earth or even yahoo maps. Plug them numbers in and you even get a picture of the tower not to mention driving directions.

Nock
