Why Does WODE Perform So Much Better Than WZZO?

Joel is on WZZO now. Theyre still no WMMR, but then again, nobody is. The station has a good balance imo, too much new stuff is a no go for me. I can send you some airchecks if youd like. I have Joels first day recorded.

Like poster jeffwoehrle, I'm out of the business as well. In fact, so long that my hair is white and his looks still brown.
And I'm not even from here. Call me an overaged radio buttinkski punk from Long Island. But I've been a Skook for almost 30 years now. Perhaps some notes from there may fit the issue .....
A mainstream AoR station changed owners there. Without going the sloppier details here, suffice it to say that the new ownership's immediate priority was a tower site that would double their coverage. Along with that very site (and the actual sale of the station) came a few asterisks. The station changed from AoR to the newest form of it -- @$$#0Le Oriented Rubbish. Hair-bands, arena rock, Metal, the Ozzy Of Your Life: call the genre what you will. The female audience fled. Many of them touched down at a Gold-based A/C competitor, which themselves just got a wonderful power increase.
So, two thoughts. When I jalopied into town here, WZZO was one of the noisiest and offensive album stations I can remember tuning in. To me they were really 'in your face, dude.' Buddy, you PO a good segment of your P-1s and you never see them again. Radio people could almost hear the tumult of disenfranchised high-heels clicking off to other choices. In the meantime, WODE was doing its patient and more equable transitioning thing.
Two : the swarm of alternate listening and other entertainment devices that always captivate the young has become all-pervasive in modern times -- impulsive enough to be giving more fits to radio programmers seeking youth than to the chieftains who already have the older cousins listening on the job.
If you wish to throw into the mix the identity-barren modern forms of pop music, you're perfectly justified. That's a different but not disassociated topic, relevant insofar as there are what -- just three corporations in charge of new music releases? Older skewing formats had a lot more elbow room.
Now STAY off my lawn! Or I'll hook up my outdoor speakers and play Snooky Lanson and Mitch Miller songs at you!
