Why doesn't Star make any Jock changes?

I see all this talk about Star's ratings, and them being sooo low... why don't they make any jock changes? Maybe a new morning show... are their ratings that good in the mornings to keep Kent and Alan? Or is it just the music that sucks... I don't really study the ratings all that closely.Just curious...

YoYo...Gotta remember that Kent has a long history with Star as PD, morning guy and also a cozy relationship with KOMO TV that's worth lot's of bucks in airtime.Star's troubles run deeper than the jocks...They've been inconsistently programmed for such a long time. Now that they can stop worrying about KLSY maybe they can focus on their own product and get it together.

Please tell us what "Star's" troubles are. Also, please tell us how they have been 'inconcistently programmed.'Pretty funny how you claim Star being inconsistently programmed and how you claim they worry about KLSY.

You are kidding right? 12+ makes no difference. In women STAR is always strong and always a top biller in the market. Do you really think STAR was ever worried about KLSY? It was probably the other way around, which is why KLSY is no longer HOT/AC.STAR, along with KUBE, KZOK, KMPS and KRWM may be one of the most consistantly programmed stations in town. My only complaint about all of these stations is that musically they remain conservative, and could have some surprises from time to time (that is why I am in sales.) All of these stations are top billers because the talent IS consistent and the music is consistent.

I agree with DJ Dan. STAR is really one of few Seattle stations who seems to have the formula down. They are consistent performers. What really matters to STAR are the female #'s. Why "fix" a radio station who always comes out as one of the top billers in the market??

Remember your history. Until KLSY "Classy" made their lame attempt at Hot A/C starting about 6 years ago, they were the dominant AC station for a decade. Shall we recall the A/C rivals that bit the dust? Magic-108, KSEA, KLTX, KRWM (was on the rocks till Sandusky bought it) KJR-FM and more (remember the KJR Delilah disaster?)...For all that time KPLZ was hot, mainstream, more '80's...you name it. They were all over the road. Only in the past two years has KPLZ settled into a groove. If KLSY programmed it, it was soon to follow on KPLZ. Now with a clean road ahead for Hot A/C Star should keep their eye on the prize and stay true to the format. You are right that KLSY's demise was, in part, caused by worrying far too much about KPLZ. Look at books from 86 thru 97...For over a decade KLSY was the consistent winner in female demos. In the end, we (the listeners) win. Now we have a decent new station (KQMV) and a heritage A/C (KPLZ) to enjoy. Free market economics rules!

You are exactly right! KLSY was the dominant AC in the 90's and KPLZ the dominant HOT/AC in the 90's, playing a Mix of 80's and 90's. KPLZ continues that today for over a decade with little change. (I believe the station was TOP-40 in the 80's and early 90's, but I wasn't here then) The air-staff remains consistent too. The lesson to be learned is with KLSY. The station has changed air-staff, music and PD's multiple times over the last five years. That only spells trouble. I realize they wanted to let KRWM grow, but in doing so killed KLSY. That is the problem when you have similar stations in a cluster. Let's hope KQMV sticks to this format for two or three years to give it a chance and not start over every few months. To make advertisers believe, you have to be around for a couple of years and have long term success. There have been too many JACK's, 80's stations and a WOLF that may hit big quickly and then fade here and all around the nation. A better strategy is a station that slowly builds to dominance. Stick with the plan in good times and bad and loyal advertisers (and listeners) will stick with you.

So, you have gone from 'Star having troubles today and focusing on getting it together' to now to them being 'in a groove.' Uh.....okay. And who is inconsistent here?To claim KPLZ followed KLSY's lead is laughable. KPLZ had a lot to do with keeping KLSY at bay, both in terms of programming and in the sales community. I don't know who you think KPLZ is targeted to, but they have been serving their audience for quite a long time, and doing it well. KLSY got jealous enough to abandon their format and try to go after KPLZ. Didn't work. KPLZ has been among the top female billers in the market for a very long time, dating well back into the days you claim KLSY was 'dominant.'What they programmed might not have been your cup of tea, but they maintain and superserve their core audience to this day.
