WHY hasn't someone tried this here?

...and won't. There's no money in it. 1430 is a wasted signal in STL.

I give 680 about a year before they make a move at this point. AA is billing gar-bagggge, and the heat is on at Entercom. Except for 'RVR, $$ are waaaaaay off over there.

I picked up a station over the holiday in Jonesboro, Arkansas while vacationing at the lake. The Wolf 95.9 is country legends and sounds pretty good. On the way home, I lost them at the I-55/40 split in W Memphis. I checked R&R for their ratings and was shocked. They had a 14 share 12+! Maybe somebody out to try that out here in Mempho.

I think it might work here actually, but I wpouldn't expect a 14 share. WMC AM sure has the history and I'd try it in a heartbeat if I were 79, but I'd be wondering if it would work on AM.

It could pull some decent numbers, mostly upper demo. As difficult as it would be to sell, I can't imagine putting it on an FM stick.

I'd flip 790 so fast to Classic County it would make heads spin. It couldn't help but pull better numbers than what they've already got. Pull it off a bird and it's cheap, cheap, cheap. I actually HATE anything that's not "live and local" but if I were doing it only for bottom line that's exactly what I'd do, at first anyway. I strongly disagree with those who say you couldn't sell it. Why the hell not?? It could put serious heat on Kix if The Buzz were to flip to it. But, I know, that's not gonna happen.

OK, look at the demos. You only have one so called country station. If you had that format(classic country) on in the Memphis area, you certainly would have to play some Southern Gospel in the Mix. And have some one who is entertaining and family oriented in the morning drive. So far no one has figured this out. Excluding Flinn who knows nothing about radio, put some pro's on and it will be a money maker. Some may disagree, but Memphis radio needs a classic country format. Heavy on the farm reports and truck drivers. Nuff said. I need another beer.

It won't do squat on FM, not what it should or could in another market - it's too Urban here. It *could* work on 790, but not until the analog signals are all turned off and everyone has an HD receiver. That's the only way another AM music station is going to make a dent in this market, Country or anything else. Besides, advertisers WILL NOT BUY on most AM stations that try to play music regardless of ratings. Objections are too entrenched. Local exceptions, of course, being WDIA and WLOK.<P ID="signature">______________

Re: Ill Tell you Why

Yes, we need one, I agree. But we ain't gonna get one because nobody knows how to cash in on it. It needs listeners, and it would have to target DeSoto county to get em.
