why HD wont make it, well not in this market

I just traded my Ford Fusion in for a new Stang, I told Rocky at Pacifico I wanted an HD radio installed. I always hear these commercials about demanding an HD radio in your new car and Ford is a biggie with HD. Well to my surprise he boldly talked me out of it, in fact a few managers came over and trashed HD, they just did not want me to have it... Instead they told me they are giving me Sirius for free forever. The new Fords come equipped with a built in Sat radio in all makes and models.....Its a nice unit it has the usual bands but also 3 stages of Sirius with the RDS feature included with Sirius...How can HD survive when Sat radio is much more entertaining and its free also, no fee that is...but we all know its in the sticker price hidden somewhere....a Sat system would be over 400 in a Ford so Sirius seemed a better bet and its kinda nice....But I do prefer XM....

I wonder if Sirius knows they're getting lifetime non-paying "subscribers"? And, what will they give to paying subscribers so that the paying subscribers don't feel like they're subsidizing other people's freebie subscriptions?

And, if Sirius does know about these deals and approves of them, then wow... SOMEBODY (Sirius) sure is desperate to get their product out there! Sound familiar?

It doesn't sound familiar, but it does look like a product that has 1,800% more market penetration. Regardless of how it got there, Satellite is BY FAR the more desirable product. The public has spoken very clearly on this.

I can guarantee you that HD Radio will never reach the 18-million plateau...unless they give them all away for free.

and if you look at what stores like Best Buy or Circuit City are selling, most of the HD radios that they have avaliable are only "HD-Ready". You have to go fork out more money for the HD tuner. Why?

I wouldn't mind HD radio in my car just to hear KYW on FM and 1210 without static. I do have XM and Sirius in my car. (Baseball & Football fan)

Sorry for the typo what I meant was an HD radio would be over 400.00 not a Sat system. I did go back and check with my salesperson and he told me Ford has a deal with Sirius and does pay Sirius for having them free in all Fords...I don't know about the lesser models...and it only started with the 2009 models. The new radio is pretty cool it does it all and the reception is great, I had an XM Rodie in my old car and the reception was bad and with all the used FM frequencies in use it was hard to find a clear one, I used 88.3 but at times it was choked with interference, plus no antenna, wires and unit in the way, but does this kill HD, it seems Ford does not want to mess with it and install it, they push Satellite radio which has more variety and better reception...

I was at Circuit City in Plymouth Meeting Pa. a few weeks ago, and just for laughs, I asked to see an HD radio. I was told there is only one left in the store and it was on the final clearance table in the front of the store. After that one goes, they will no longer carry HD radios. I was in again the other day, and the same unit on the HD table with the same sticker, and scratches was still there now discounted 75%. I guess there are just not enough people who want to listen to KYW on WYSP HD2. lol.
