Why I Think That Hot 96.9 Will Succeed or Reasons Why it Will Not, Pros and Cons

I've been listening since the flip, and even though it is not my ideal listening situation, I find the station to be quite good! I stopped listening to Jam'n many, many years ago. The station is brand new, so its gonna take time for it to tweak what it will ultimately sound like.

My opinion is that time goes on they will add more Gold or throwbacks. My thinking is just like most new radio stations, they will not sound much like they sound like now a year from now or even 3 months from now. They are surely filling a niche!

Now, why it won't work 2 words Greater Media. While I applaud them for finally trying something new, they are not very patient went it comes to a ratings winner. Just look at how many PD's that they went through at WBOS when they were Triple A? They tried many tweaks, but none of them seemed to satisfy the big brass at GM.

If Hot 96.9 isn't an almost immediate success, expect things to turn quickly for the current station. Anyone agree, disagree?

Your first sentence contradicts your second two. They were extremely patient with WBOS. Many years as a ratings loser yet they gave it lots of time and tried many things to make it work.

And to that point look at WTKK. It was a ratings loser for years before they finally pulled the plug. It seems they tried many changes before they flipped. I think they'll be patient. I wonder if they'll put some money into advertising the station.

As far as promotion, they will probably do so in the beginning (IE, the next few months,) but then after that they will be on their own. Looking at what they did with WROR when they switched it from Oldies to "Classic Hits" as they called it at the time. A lot of money went into it in the beginning, then it became same old, same old.

Another thing, I do not expect this station to go on without a fight from Clear Channel either. I am sure that they will beef up Jam'n and be a hard competitor as well.

I've been listening on and off for the past couple of days. I like what I'm hearing so far. The playlist is tight but that is to be expected on a launch station. Hopefully they will add more late 80's 90's rhythmic throwbacks. The one thing that is really encouraging is the cross section of people leaving messages on their facebook and twitter.
