Why I'm about to drop my subscription

When XM ran "IT" - it was the only "must hear radio" ever in my lifetime. You are right; I had it on at work and got about half as much work done as I was in awe at hearing every Top40 song - and some extras all in order from the decades.
Gosh, XM was freakin' sweet then - too bad the Sirius boys don't realize how exciting the "IT" program running for month brought XM listeners.
Now that they have us paying the royalty fees, there's no reason in the world for SXM not to run the best radio program ever run in North America again!
I want "IT" !!
 
A friend mentioned that 'IT' was getting some feedback. I'm a newbie to the board so I'm just getting up to speed with the conversation. Can't say I listen to Sirius/XM anymore. I at one time paid for 10 subscriptions in addition to the freebies for being an employee. I had all my family and a couple of friends on board. It's still an awesome service for some..not all...I'm sure there is still some great programming being done as I still know some of the folks that are still there. I just didn't need it anymore. Not bitter or anything, I just found other places to find content. It was a good ride and as a shareholder...I wish nothing but the best. Hell...I need for the stock jump back up!!! I'm glad some of you enjoyed 'IT'. Heck, I'm glad you still remember. It was fun to put together. 'IT' wasn't for everyone, but XM was a good place for the special and a couple of times a year made sense to run. It was an idea I had for a while....and a labor of love that I couldn't have pulled off without Lee Abrams. He gave me the green light. Lee usually gave the green light. I think that's what I miss about XM. I tried a bunch of stuff...some of it worked...some of it sucked. But in the early days we had/were encouraged to try some stuff and see what sounded good and worked. 'IT' worked. It did take a number of years to located ALL the music and each time we ran it...I'd change some things. The crew would groan as that meant a lot of work....Special shout outs to the crew that made 'IT' happen. Bob Moke is the GOD when it comes to early music. Dude knows his stuff. And of course the production help of Bart Taylor and Larry Whitt. All the news cuts with Scott Walterman. A fun time. Once again, I enjoyed the ride. I'm glad some of you still remember...it brought back a few memories.

Kurt, good to see you on the boards. I've had XM since 2005 and I subscribed because of the great "oh wow" oldies that the 60s on 6 played. I bought a lifetime at the end of 2009 before the price of that subscription skyrocketed. I don't think I'd have XM(er..SiriusXM)if I didn't have a lifetime subscription. When Sirius and XM merged in November of 2008 the uniqueness of the service went downhill.

It is nice to hear from somebody who actually worked on IT. I listened to the 2006 and 2007 plays. The fact we are talking about it five years after the fact is because IT was the greatest radio special in history. The chronology, the news inserts and the sheer amount of work that went into it made that special unique, and as a lover of "deep oldies". this was the ultimate special.

Did you hear of any talk of reviving IT? I suppose that would mean taking out the voices of the people who are no longer there and inserting new tracks. Of course, Bob Moke, Matt the Cat and Scott Walterman were such an integral part of the on air presentation, that would probably be a bit difficult. However, a lot of subscribers who love the decades channels would be overjoyed at the return of IT. I know the Sirius programming ways are different than the XM ways and that could be a problem,as well.

I remember hearing another XM gem "8 days in May" in 2005. Were you responsible for that as well? It seems these days just being commercial free is enough for subscribers. Lou Simon's 60s survey is a great listen, but a long form program like IT really made the subscription price worth every penny.

Glad to see you posting,Kurt. The pre merger days of XM on the 50s,60s and 70s were quite special.

Damn, XM was great in those days; wish we could still have the deep music lover's XM with 2500 song playlists per channel, and a separate Sirius 400 song playlist channel, but the merger did a bad number on the XM side, with XM losing and Sirius 'winning', if you could call it that.

If I'm not mistaken, XM even upped the bitrate on the specific channel that was currently running "IT" so that the quality was even better than the usual at that time?
 
Yep! Kurt - HR and a few other names that are probably not family friendly. Benale & Johnny - I guess the way to answer your question(s) is to simply say that I believe the content and methodology currently coming out of your radio...well...speaks for itself.....good...solid...maybe for some of you...predictable...but definitely hit music. At least that's what I'm told...I don't listen. We apparently went much deeper with the music than they do now....but what's funny is you have NO IDEA how much some of you guys bitched that the library wasn't deep enough and how you wish I were replaced. I should have kept the emails :) I wouldn't envision changes.
