Why in the world does Paris Hilton think she can sing?

Has anyone heard Paris Hilton's "Stars are Blind" single? The first time I heard it I laughed so hard because the lyrics and her voice are so stupid. I cannot believe its actually rising on the charts (at least the AT 40 fake chart). What other horrible garbage is going to be on her CD?

I'm not on this board much at or at all, but I was glancing I came across your post.....I'm not a big Paris Hilton fan and I think myself that's she's over exposed on th internet and not a great actress especially in that horror movie "Wax Museum"
But I do give credit when credits due....She isn't the best singer in the world, but hey, I thought she did a decent job, as far as recording a catchy hook lovestruck innocent hit record. I was surprised that it came out that good.

You see the problem with CHR top 40 radio is that we been beseiged with doom and gloom, computerized fusion, non catchy dance hype plus the the talentless rap artists with nothing but a lesson in Thugism. Plus alot of negative, anger from both sexes , and sample rip offs just to get by. What we can use is the rejuvenated Leslie Gore , Ronnettes type of hit music. I'm not talking oldies, but good catchy hook pop and rock singles. It's been lacking for a long time. And if we go back the other way even if there are some good recordings...top 40 will sound and we will still feel as miserable and with that world is ending feeling , like the way most of us have felt for the past 15 years listening to the radio.

Lately some of the current released material has been picking up along with a better identity of returning artist. Even Jessica Simpson's latest single sounded better then her past stuff, which is just dance effect hype crap.
CHR needs to get to to hit song sound, that are catchy , less negative, whether if it's from Jessica Simpson, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Def Leppard.

Personally, I'd rather hear Tinkerbell hound on the radio or sing a yap yap chiuwawa duet of Jingle Bells than here this song. Maybe the reason it's called stars are blind because all the stars lost their vision after seeing her and that nobody dude make out in her music video ;D.

I personally think that with the technology available to us today, they could have brought a hyena into the studio and within an hour or so recorded something that sounds as good as "Stars Are Blind". With all the voice manipulation tools and other gadgets that you'll find in a studio, anything is possible. Someone sent me a clip of her actually singing at Hugh Hefner's birthday party, and to say it was awful would be too kind. That said, I would be surprised to see her tour behind this album, and if she did, I'd be willing to bet that she will lip-sync the whole way through. Great - take advantage of your fans even more. But they deserve it for supporting this atrocity.

You mentioned "doom and gloom" on the CHR format. Um ... where? I look at the CHR charts, and I don't see it anywhere - in fact, the format on the whole is completely upbeat. Only really positive rock acts seem to cross over, and the hip-hop genre has taken a turn toward the dumb and happy, as exemplified by Dem Franchize Boyz, D4L, Yung Joc, Paul Wall and a slew of others. Really, hit music hasn't been this upbeat since the late '80s when you had bubblegum pop, rock acts like Poison, and MC Hammer and Tone Loc representing the hip-hop end of things.

Alot of the doom and gloom sound has eroded lately, but I was refering to mostly CHR in the 90's and into the first few years of the millenium. Creed, Nickleback, along with alot of the grundge sound of the 90's.

OK, here's the deal. I have an internet station, with over 100k TLH for the last 30 days (106876). The format is mainstream CHR. I added Paris Hilton on June 18. I thought it would be very short-lived at best.

Now, nearly 6 weeks later, here's what I find.

It's my NUMBER ONE MOST REQUESTED SONG ***NOT TO PLAY***.

Yes, you read that right. I get emails and website comments that say things like
"Omg, paris hilton...no more of her! But the rest of the songs are great!"
""i love all the song except paris hilton,pls...play more pussycat dolls!"

So, you would think the other stats would pretty much suck, too. Right?

However, here they are. Total impressions (plays x listeners) = 22296.
"buy" = 1
"wishlist" = 12
"thumbs up" = 28
"thumbs down" = 38

so far, looks like the listeners don't like this song. but then this final stats.

total drops / drop % = 0 / 0%

yes, you read that right. 22296 plays, ZERO DROPS.

Here's another song for comparison: Chamillionaire, "Ridin' Dirty"

Total Impressions = 27257
"buy" = 1
"wishlist" = 9
"thumbs up" = 47
"thumbs down" = 20
total drops / drop % = 39 / 0.10% (1 tenth of 1 percent)

So, the original posters and lots of other VOCAL people may hate Paris. But the HUGE majority of listeners like the track. So I play it.

This has been a trend as far as I remember going back to the 70's. We had an artist name David Cassidy. The group the Partridge Family. The song "I Think I Love You". People ridiculed the song, the group doesn't play it's own instruments. And it's bubble gum. I don't know if it's a testosterone or macho cover up thing to liking a hit hit song, but if you went into everybody's closet that has a record/cd collection, I'll bet you for the 70% that say they hate it, I'll find a copy of that song in their closet. They are the type that sing or hum the tune in their car with the windows up so no one will hear it play. There's gotta be a reason something like that sells a million and it charts.

Do I think she can sing? No, but then again I don't think a lot of artists can sing. Remember Britney?

Alright, Nickelback isn't exactly the most cheerful band around, but aren't they mostly on Hot AC? As far as Creed goes, while their sound was clearly derived from the moody rock of the early '90s, their songs were usually hopeful, optimistic, and happy, as evidenced by songs like "With Arms Wide Open", "Higher", "My Sacrifice", and pretty much every other song that crossed over.

That's another strange thing in the music business, classify if there Hot AC, Nickleback can be CHR, AOR, Rock whatever.

I realize that everybody's ready to have this thread buried. But I had one more thought that came to mind. Does anyone know if Wal-Mart is going to carry Paris's new album :D?

(it's a joke by the way)

They are, but they'll edit out all the crap on it.

There, when you've thought William Hung was on sale and have seen it all, now you've REALLY seen it all. A CD on sale for $9.99 that is completely dead air. I'll get A+s and 5 stars from critics for sure.

Speaking of good ol' Mr. Hung, now we've got a performer that makes him look like Dylan by comparison. Actually, I have more respect for Hung than I do the Spears, Hiltons and Lohans of the world. There's no ego there at all, and at least he actually sings when he performs on stage, which is more than I can say for them.
