Why is 1160 off the air?

Anyone know why KVCE 1160 has been off the air since Saturday? It can't be transmitter trouble - they have 2 separate facilities for day and night and should be able to use one of them in an emergency. Maybe they are just embarrassed at the loss of Bortz to KSKY.

Curl, everything originates through KSEV in Houston. My earlier post questions why they don't have a contingency plan in place for back up programming.
Nice to see they have another occasional listener.

So, Dan Patrick doesnt have a backup plan, sounds about right....

Dang.. gonna be missin' my Skeeter the Car Doctor Show on Sat afternoon!

You'd think that AM's that operate from dual sites would have a built-in backup. In many cases, however, that appears to be untrue. The FCC requires that the service area of a backup transmitting facility that is not co-located with the main facility not extend outside the primary service area of the main transmitter. I don't know about your Dallas-area 1160, but in many cases, that criterion is not met. Quite often, dual-site operations use sites on opposite sides of the CoL, for example, when, to protect other stations, the day site must send most signal to the east and the night site must send most signal to the west. A good example is 1370 in Pikesville (Baltimore) MD. If it were not for that requirement, there would have been no need for the station to use two sites in the first place.
