Why is Butch Stearns allowed to host on EEI?

Why? He talks over co-hosts and callers, and makes stupid observations. He is single-handedly killing the Sunday football show as I write. I cannot listen to him when he's on EEI, and I quickly switch off. Does anyone have any theories about why he's allowed to waste the cost of transmitting his voice? I'm serious -- EEI can't find ANYONE more capable?

Good question . I met Butch Stearns ( at Fox 25 Dedham ) back in September 2001, and he was a a$$H/// on that day . Butch Stearns is so full of himself . Butch Stearns always add his dumb opinions on his Fox 25 sportscast, when its not needed. I also wish WEEI would keep Butch Stearns off the air ( and off Fox 25 ).

I don't have any problem with Butch. Maybe that's because after 5 min's of yankee talk Sat. I thought it may have been the lowpoint in broadcast history. Seriously it was even worse than usual and that's saying something.

As bad as Butch can be, and I sometimes wonder if he's really that stupid or just acting, he's light years ahead of Mustard and Johnson. Thank heaven for Hardy and Trupiano.

Exactly--you may be hearing more of him now. As for talking over other people isn't that done (along w/
talking loud etc) on The Big Show, and they're very high up in ratings? Whatever works...

I don't get it. Is that something Butch says a lot?

So true!
Have you noticed callers that think they own the team and talk like it's their money.
Or when they say, "We Won!!" We didn't win, we watched.

Seinfeld bit says it all. With all the trades, we're cheering laundry.

It's not just callers to WEEI or the personalities there, a LOT of fans do that. It's because of the emotional attachment you get from cheering day-after-day.

Boston sports media personalities represent, in its most accurate form, a cabal. They are incestuous to a fault, bouncing between platforms to collect beer money. The TV guys weasel their way into radio; the newspaper guys weasel their way into EVERYTHING; the radio guys weasel their way into TV. The 'It's-all-about-me' mindset that they all share is not an exaggeration, and they believe themselves to be so above the fray. If they only knew how little regard the listening/reading/viewing public has for sports media hacks. They just live in a little insular, myopic world where reality just escapes them. It is all rather humorous to witness, though.
