Why is Cool 92.9 and Cruisin' 93.5 Are Still Playing Oldies?

In honor of the one-year anniversary of the format flip from oldies to "Jack", WBPM's "Cool 92.9" and WZCR's "Cruisin' 93.5" are still playing oldies due to the lost of WCBS-FM in New York City last year. WKHL also lost its oldies station in Stamford, Connecticut back in April where the format was flipped to 96.7 The Coast, to a more 80's station. If these two stations like WBPM and WZCR are still running oldies, how long will it last? Are these two oldies stations on FM are going to extinct until the format change for the first time since June 3rd?, or should WBPM return to its home base at 94.3 to become top 40 again as the new B94? ::) Thoughts.

The call letters WBPM are signed to 92.9 and now 92.9 is going to Pamal Broadcasting so the call letters are going to stay with 92.9

Maybe you should call it B92 instead of B94 as a top 40 station. That would be nice if Pamal is going to take over and dropped oldies just like CBS-FM did last year in honor of the one-year anniversary of the change from oldies to "Jack" back on June 3rd. I hope WCKL is back on the air simulcasting Cruisin 93.5 again. This is an AM station on 560 and it's an older demo format programming oldies. I hope more oldies station on AM would be a great idea. WGHQ will soon to become oldies if Pamal is going to take over after Clear Channel is going to be sold. When is the two stations like 92.9 and 920 are expected to change its formats? When it's going to happen?

Forget adding the 'B'. Why do we need to be reminded of B-94? The last thing any of us need is visions of Mike Vincent and Lou Brown from back in the 80's! Obviously the Oldies format is going to go away. The question is 'what do you replace it with?' If someone would just go in there and program by their gut and not by research groups, they might just make it work. Let the Mix 97.7s and Lite Fms beat everyone over the head with all the tested music. Keep playing those same...what about 200 records? Hopefully Pamal will have the guts and vision to utilize 92.9 wisely and give the Hudson Valley something they don't have. But I don't think the 'B' needs to reappear.

I don't think Pamal will flip formats at 92.9, not right away at least. But then again, I don't know. It would be smart on their part. If they do flip it, it wouldn't be a top 40 format. That would make no sense, because they'd be competing with K104, which is their own station.

92.9 used to be the BEST rocker in that area....They shud go back to what was working and what was the BEST!!!

I agree. I usually listened to 929ROCK over WRRV because it had more variety and because it's broadcast from Saugerties, which is where I live, so it came in good everywhere I was.

If you look very carefully at WBPM, WZCR or any other Clear Channel Hudson Valley station like Lite-FM at 98.5. Cool 92.9 had Rick McCaffery still doing mornings as well as on the "Solid Gold Jukebox" on Friday nights. I don't Rick McCaffery doing mornings, but if it doesn't work, why not bring a new morning show like Harry Harrison. Rick Knight is doing afternoons on the station playing oldies as well as on Saturday night where he plays disco on one of the Lite-FM's like 92.1 99.3 and 98.5, Maybey Rick Knight will get out of afternoons soon and bring in Bob Shannon from CBS-FM as well as Harry Harrison where he used to do mornings on CBS-FM at the time before the format change. That is irritating and it's annoying. Bill Williams was doing the weekend shift at WBPM while he was doing mornings on Cruisin' 93.5 and on Lite-FM at 98.5. Bring in Steve O'Brien to do weekends. If they were running Tom Kent's "Into the 70's" and "Hall of Fame Coast to Coast" shows, forget it! Hire more people. Bring additional jocks like Bobby Jay and Don K Reed and there you have it or stick with Rick McCaffery on a Friday shift. This is a good idea if WBPM should do is gonna stick with the format if Pamal will take over is bring more radio people. You know what's wrong with Clear Channel is they got enough radio people working here. That's what's wrong with Cool 92.9. As I should say, bring a few former CBS-FM jocks to WBPM and maybe it should work. Got it?

It was a good station, a lttle rough around the edges, but it may have been tough for them to sell to advertisers. Gotta pay the bills, folks.
