Of course, KGO really won't be able to compete because KCBS added a full-power FM signal and does All-News 24/7. But I suppose Cumulus hasn't taken these two factors into account.

Don't they have TWO FM Rock stations? One that carries the 49ers? Doesn't stretch my imagination too far to see them flipping The Bone or KFOG. It's not like this company is hung up on "heritage" or anything like that.

Cumulus has also 2 AM sports stations in San Francisco. I wonder how can SFO handle 3 sports stations. The sports FM station is KGMZ 95.7 FM by Entercom. I think they have to decide if KSFO, and KNBR should go on FM. By the way KNBR was on 99.7 FM in the 1960's

Recto - needing to move KNBR to FM is waaaay premature. "The Game" (95.7 FM) might as well be a secret, the ratings are so low. But when you premiere a new format and put almost no money into promotion, I guess that's no surprise. Ratings may grow as listeners stumble onto 95.7 by accident...or go there looking for country music, but so far, KNBR has nothing to worry about. Besides, KNBR has the SF Giants, the 49ers, the Golden State Warriors, the San Jose Sharks, and the Stanford Cardinal. If 95.7 can snag the Raiders away from CBS, they might turn the station into a sports destination, but that's a big if.

680 has been a sports station for what...25 years now?

Well some of the KGO or KNBR sports talent has to defect to 95.7FM and the San Jose Sharks have to move away from 102.1 KUFX FM in able for 95.7 FM to sell. KGMZ Heck they should consider 92.3FM San Jose when it is possible.

Lets see if KCBS decides to go into the talk market like they did in 1987. If it turns out that KGO beats out KCBS in the ratings.

I doubt KCBS will try Talk shows again. It was a flop in 87, and what they learned from that experiment is that their strength is in 24 news coverage. Of course, KGO was the 800 lb Talk gorilla in 87, and KCBS couldn't make a dent. Obviously, times are different now. But the only way it would work for KCBS, in my opinion, is if they snagged a big name KGO host and ran his show in the same time slot. And by BIG, I mean Ronn Owens...maybe Gil Gross, but not Taliferro or Burns.

OK theres a taped talk show KCBS 106.9FM does called "KCBS Newsmakers" on Sunday under the Public affairs division. By the way How long did KABC run the Ronn Owens show I remember in 1998 KABC790AM did a promo for KABC7 for simulcast of KGO's Ronn Owens show but it flopped on 790 but had huge ratings in San Francisco. Didn't Ronn Owens had a wife that worked at KCBS at some point?

I answered these questions on the SF board - you're double-posting.

Some of this is why business people and politicians were going after NPR. They can't take the competition.

Thanks for the laugh of the day. ;D

When you hear those spots about drinking and driving, they're not PSAs. They're paid spots. From the feds. Same thing with the Open Season spots from Medicare. Paid advertising. And the $1 check-off on your 1040 mainly goes to political advertising.
