Why is KING getting a new sports reporter?

Many stations around the country are starting to add sports back into their newscasts. Sports is considered entertainment, not news, which means as it was during the pandemic, sports can be easily cut out of the lineup if economic pressures require cutting staff/costs.
Most died in the wool sports fans use apps or smartphone streaming to get whatever details related to their favorite teams. If sports can be sold in a newscast, it will live on. If not? Then it's easily removed with little notice.

I guess we know now that Chris is moving to weekday mornings. It’s a great move, in my opinion, but I feel super bad for Steve Bunin.

KING is the new home of the Seahawks. So presumably that’s why Chris is moving to mornings and Jake is likely taking is spot on weekend evenings.

I hope Jake isn’t. The new sports reporter should be. They really could leverage Steve Bunin’s background in sports. I really think Paul Silvi should just move on. I feel like he’s dialing it in and has been for awhile. But, hey what do I know?

What do you mean "home of the Seahawks?"

NFL games continue to be distributed to their television partners according to the NFL contacts with each. If KING is producing the pre-season games, fine, but those are 4 games with low viewership.

Jake is also the name of the new sports reporter.

King 5 is the Home of Seahawks as in the main local sponsor so the shows that Seahawks has like other NFL teams will now air on KING-KING. Seahawks Saturday Night etc.

KING paid to be able to say "Home of the Seahawks" and they paid dearly. Not sure of the exact details but I'm guessing that they will be obligated to do a pre and post game show and other coverage even though the vast majority of games are on other stations. And the pre-season broadcasts are produced by the Seahawks and are self contained. They go out to a large number of stations in the Pacific Northwest along with Alaska and Hawaii and are delivered via satellite. The exception would be any pre-season game picked up by the Fox network.

Well that announcement was nothing earth shattering and one would think you would want to have your sports director be part of said announcement not the weekend sports guy. Oh well.

Paul Silvi just doesn’t seem to have it in him anymore. Joyce Taylor was HILARIOUS with the pom poms on the Tuesday 5 pm show trying her level best to get Silvi excited! I don’t think Steve Soliz knew how to react—Joyce won’t keep him around too long.

King may try to market their station as the Seahawks station, but as far as I know Fox will still have the majority of games due to nfl contracts. Interesting…because perhaps nbc is looking to get back into Sunday early broadcasts and using this as a bargaining tool. More to come…

New NFL media contracts have already been agreed to. NBC is not getting back into regional NFL timeslots in the next decade.

KING is not an NBC O&O, They might have a local preseason deal with the Seahawks, but would be relegated to carrying whatever AFC game NBC Sports was featuring during the regular season.
