Why is Liberman trashing KCOH Radio???

Guy, I'm Joe Polichino. It's good to know you. Besides the detailed and interesting history of your career, what I got from your posting is that the "fix was in" because you as a Black man didn't get preferential treatment in obtaining the station in Georgia, simply because of the color of your skin. That is not "fair play" to feel you are entitled to a facility and tax incentives simply because you are a minority and therefore should be given preferential treatment because of it. I have never agreed with that, and continue to feel that that is yet another way the wedge continues to separate and categorize us as Black vs. White. I'm a bit amazed that someone of your experience would not only buy into that notion, but even grandly promote it. You and I are both human beings. We both bleed red. This us against them mentality is a glaring reason this country is being rotted from the inside out. Why do you feel that you deserve to get incentives just for being Black? I don't deserve them for being White, nor should or would I expect something to be handed to me on the basis of my skin pigmentation. I certainly didn't have a parade thrown for me, get any special treatment, or even receive a key to the City for marrying a Mexican national or having a child that is half White and half Mexican. Wouldn't have accepted them, had they been offered. In my line of work, I know I am an asset. I built my reputation on hard work, determination, and the ever constant demand to succeed. It certainly wasn't from someone giving me a free ride.

You and I agree wholeheartedly on one thing, though. You made an accurate statement that rock and roll didn't build this City. KILT helped build Houston radio, and KNUZ to a lesser extent. KYOK and KCOH had a hand in it as well, and certainly we can't leave out KLVL. If any of them shaped and built Houston's radio dial, KLVL led the pack. I challenge you to find another station here in Houston that beat KLVL to the punch when it came to truly serving and inserting itself into the targeted community the way Mr. Morales did with 1480.

I'm more convinced now that you may not have intended for the original post to be bigoted, but it certainly came across that way. I've had just about enough with certain folks coming on here and belittling an entire ethnicity because a radio station changed language to focus on Spanish dominant or preferred individuals. If that truly wasn't your intention, then I offer you a heartfelt apology. It came across the screen that way, but of course, I can't dive into your mind and know for certain your intent.

And I'm still objecting to posting without doing sufficient research, which is even more inexcusable now that you've posted your personal history in the market, Guy. In this era of the Internet making more and more facts available via search engines and sites like David's archive of broadcasting publications, there is no reasonable explanation as to why you chose to post a revisionist version of history, only to be have your errors corrected within 2½ hours (in the case of your Friday post) or 40 minutes (in the case of today's post).

You did manage to cross over a legal line and have the moderator edit out libelous content, though. Congratulations.

23 posts and already in a pot of hot water. Again, congratulations.

Plenty of bow tying practice this week, K.M.? You mastered that one, most assuredly.

I will say, all joking aside, I certainly don't intend to demean the long history of KCOH or its representation as the "Voice of the African American Community", but if we are to give an accurate assessment of KCOH's historical place in shaping the dial here in Houston, I would be remiss to note that while KILT was pulling 28-30 shares and KNUZ was pulling 12-15 shares, KCOH was getting its butt handed to it on a monthly basis by KYOK for years. That's not opinion, that's documented and historical fact. KCOH has only inherited the legacy in the last 2 decades, KYOK laid the foundation for which KCOH is now perched. Or at least it was until this last Wednesday.

Thank you. I am the Bud Collyer of radio consultants. (Watch any rerun of To Tell The Truth with him as host to get half of the joke, and a certain Saturday morning Filmation cartoon to get the other half.)
