Why Is There A WMFP-DT.2?

Thank you for relaying the info to WMFP's CE. I do get my feed from Directv. There were a couple drop outs this afternoon and some pixelation on the explosion scenes in Emergency.
Watching Knight Rider as I type this and it looks very much like VHS...the (all PI) spots don't look much better.
I'm not a video expert but your theory makes sense. Hopefully it'll look better soon.
I'm too far away to receive WMFP off air so I can't compare.

Yup! That's bandwidth... the 6MBPS coming out of the ATSC transmitter will handle that no problem. They're probably allocating something like 1.5 - 2 MBPS, and a different "profile" to cut that down even further (ie. 4:2:0 vs 4:2:2)

If the spots look the same as the show, then its not the show stock... its the transmission path (somewhere).

Also, I know the source material is pretty old but WMFP looks like a bad VHS tape on my TV. That said, it's great to see Quincy, Adam 12, Buck Rogers, etc etc. Kudos to Multicultural! However the skeptic in me thinks this is just a placeholder format until they can sell it.
One minor complaint: enough with the shady lawyer ads!

I have a feeling that the shady lawyer ads will subside on WMFP, once local spots replace them. Looking at WJAR-DT 10.2 (RTN) I'm seeing a lot more REAL local ads from the Providence area in lieu of the PSA's, 800 numbers and the ambulance chaser ads that used to run on 10.2 when it started back in February. From what I have heard, WMFP-DT 62.1 is already been well received in the market in just the past week it has been on. It's getting noticed. The RTN format has been really wanted and needed for a long time, ever since "Nick at Nite" and "TV Land" went "Generation X" to the rest of us. It's very rare I watch those two MTV operated cable channels now (I used to watch them all the time). Finally, RTN has come to Boston. WMFP-DT has excellent cable coverage and has probably one off the best OTA signals in the market, being its' DTV operates on UHF Channel 18.

If the station gets the following and sells commercial time during the shows, that's a good thing. Finally, 'MFP is getting noticed. And "this reporter" really likes it! More kudos to Multicultural for going the RTN route!
 
im soo glad that rtn is on here no more rabbit ears for me!!! i just wish they could put maybe a newscast together or go 24hrs with it i really enjoyed the alfred hitchcock show that was on at midnight when i was watching 10.2 recently well in time they should work out the kinks

Where's the old-school Headline News when we need it? That would've been a perfect fit.
 
There's an idea! As I am somebody who was part of the
original staff at the beginning of Headline News (at the stroke of Midnight, 1981/82,
then known as CNN2) I find that an interesting idea... Personally, I like the
original format better. I find the current HN format too busy/cluttered...
