Why is there any more local weather channels?

Is Victoria the only market in Texas I know of that still has a weather channel? I see Fox 7 has a Fox weather channel but it's national.

Stations used to have weather channels because they didn't have anything else to show on their subchannels. Now that there are many diginets and shopping channels they would rather use the space for subchannels that increase revenue for them. Also, more people go online to get weather info when the local newscast isn't on. At some point Fox Weather may expand beyond their Fox owned-and-operated stations and gain more affiliates.
