Why Is There No TV Board For San Francisco?

Atlanta has their own tv board on this site?
How is San Fran skipped over?
Isn't San Fran the number 5 tv market in the USA?
I am confused :eek:

It's not about market size; it's about activity. Compare: the Atlanta board has begun 13 threads since the beginning of the month, while the California board has seen only 5 threads about Bay Area TV, including this one.

LA has two TV boards, this one and another one. Go figure..

We're in the midst of some sizeable changes. The TV boards are among those being addressed. I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm on this. I don't have a time line for when the changes are happening but they are coming. I can tell you that the evolution of our television boards (and much of the radio ones) are a direct result of how the site began. The site originally was more regionally focused (think Mid-Atlantic and other locales back east). Boards have been added as the site has grown.

San Francisco is a television market that is currently being evaluated. While we can simply put up a board, we have a more focused approach in mind for the upcoming changes.

In regard to the Managing Board Editor comments about the SFO board, I hope SFO gets their own board.
There is a lot of talk about SFO tv, ie. KRON for sale, local anchors, etc..
Most of the SFO tv talk can be found on the SFO Craigslist Rants and Raves board instead of this board.

This website reminds me of Craigslist.
Well, as far as the colors go, light blue pages.
It looks like Craigslist even has the feel of Craigslist.

Don't want to tell anyone how to run their website but if I was running this Radio-Info website I would mirror it after Craigslist.
Create a Rants and Raves Board for each city.
Create a classified board for each city.
Then maybe personals for each city.

Radio-Info could become a gigantic competitor to Craigslist if they mirrored some or all of the Craigslist boards, Rants and Raves, personals, classifieds.
Craigslist has no competition on the Net, don't know why that is.
Ask anyone or do a Google search for Craigslist competiton and you will find none.

Yes, eBay has some site called figgii or something that is suppose to be like Craigslist but it is only carries classifieds and the print is so small you need a magnifying glass to see the pages.
Craig knows he has no competition and everyone is scared to create a website like Craigslist.

Like I said, if I was running Radio-info I would quickly add a Rants and Raves Board to each city, classifieds in each city, personals too.
Charge the big city employers (New York ) for ads on the board like Craig does and like Craigslist itself, the board would pay for itself and make a profit.

The radio/tv board is OK but I would go big like Craigslist.
In fact I would even redesign the website to look EXACTLY like Craigslist so the Craigslist users would feel right at home and not have to figure out how to use this site.
And let everyone post without having to register.
A ton of traffic would come to this website.
Just my two cents :D

Thanks for your opinion. A good many things like a jobs board et al. are among the changes we're evaluating. Craigslist serves a vital function but we don't want to simply be a mirror of it. They have things on their boards that aren't appropriate on a radio website. We're taking a measured approach and there are things happening in the background that simply can't be discussed at this time.

We, too, want more traffic and the changes we've made over the last year have added drastically to the amount of use on the site. Don't write us off quite yet. More changes are coming.

San Fran and LA were there own boards at one time, as were Houston and Dallas, then they got merged. I still see TV talk on the radio boards, because if someone in Milwuakee wants to talk about TV they go to the Milwaukee radio board.

Seems like there isn't enough interest in TV to support TV boards for each city.

As I suggested it would make sense to rename all the boards into regions. That way if someone had a Milwaukee or Portland TV question they'd go to a TV board and not the radio board of that name.

My suggestions were to rename them

New Board --> Old Boards

New England --> New England
Mid Atlantic --> New York State and New York City
The South --> Atlanta
Midwest --> Chicago
Southwest --> Texas and Arizona
Pacific Coast --> California
Classic --> Classic
Then add a special board for discussing High Def and Digital TV and the conversion.

I believe this would steer people away from posting TV things on the radio boards. I would read this site a LOT more if I didn't have to weed through the radio sections to find the TV posts which interest me.

True - I seem to remember that there used to be an SF TV Board, but it never generated much interest. I don't think the Managing Editor has anything to apologize for. Even the LA TV Board (2nd biggest market) is slow - Jeez - beloved 40 year veteran news anchor Hal Fishman dies (the longest continually working anchor in the US, if I remember correctly) and the whole thread dies after only a few days. People should have had dozens of stories and memories about old Hal.

This is RADIO-info.com after all. Maybe there are other sites TV nerds prefer...I don't know because I haven't searched.

If there's a section of the site that you wish to ignore and not scroll through, then I have a really good solution. At the top left hand of every section of boards (Top 20 Markets, Other Local Markets and Formats for example), there are + or - signs that users can toggle. They allow you to condense these sections and will only restore them if you hit the "+" sign. You can do with this with any section of the site that you're not interested in. It will significantly reduce your scrolling depending on your choices.

If that's what you got from my last post, Editor, you misunderstood me. I was expressing surprise that the LA Board doesn't get much traffic, even when there is big news in local TV there, and speculated that perhaps there may be other websites that attract people who like to blog about TV.

I LIKE the selections of Boards at radio-info, and check them out often, including the TV boards. Scrolling through them only takes a minute or so, and I often find interesting things to read.

LKeller,

Sorry for not making clear that I was responding to the user, Mark. He is the one with concerns about scrolling through topics in which he had no interest. I apologize to him for not giving a more timely response.

No matter where you fall in the discussion on how our TV boards should be set up, you should be pleasantly surprised in the future. Whether you like our current board setup or not, your comments are extremely welcome and encouraged. We've been compiling a list of changes and enhancements for inhouse discussion and user input has been invaluable.

Thanks to all for their views. We learn as much from those who disagree with us as we do from those who agree.
