WHY IS WSB CONTINUING WITH HERMAN CAIN ?

What a shame that WSB continues running Herman Cain 9-Noon. They could have
landed Dick Morris or someone else to handle this key mid-morning slot. Yet they
insist on keeping Herman on the air. Does anyone know how many stations on their
syndication have dropped off because of Herman....? What an annoying voice. He
YELLS at the listener. He is NOT a radio person. He is a businessman and politician,
and he should go back to selling pizzas. Cain's gotta go ! Is anyone at Cox Media
reading this blog ?

Dick Morris lands at Philly’s WPHT.
During a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference today, veteran political consultant and media personality Dick Morris announced he’s been hired by CBS Radio to host afternoon drive on “Talk Radio 1210” WPHT, Philadelphia. Morris, who most recently was an on-air analyst for Fox News Channel, will launch his new radio show April 15. He’ll fill a vacancy created by Michael Smerconish’s move to satellite radio.

To make things even worse, Cain's mic sounds terrible. Clipping distortion is very noticeable....the mic processing is also making his voice sound thin. One would almost have to wonder if this is intentional......
I'm surprised Pig Farmer is not on top of this.

And to add insult to injury, not putting Clark Howard on in the daytime. Who wouldn't use an established star if he's already in your building?

When the ratings come back and they have fallen they will make a change. WSB does not have the audience it once had but they continue to do things to drive listerners away. I cannot listen to HC! I agree about Clark.

Good point about Clark Howard. Why would they bury him at 8pm when he is a very
established and viable air personality with a big following. Ratings or not, Cain is
difficult to listen to, and he is driving away a lot of the faithful WSB audience.
Whoever made the decision to put Cain on the air at 9am each day needs to
re-examine that decision. Atlanta radio is bad enough. Cain just adds to the
problem. Three hours of dead air would be better than three hours of HC.... ??? ::) ::)

Cain's style is that of a different drummer... as the old saying goes. There is a little factoid that has not been front-page news.

Prior to the 2010 elections we had this new phenomena called "The Tea Party" which was touted by supporters as "a true grass-roots movement." The opposition loudly proclaimed: "It's ASTROTURF, not grass-roots."

Those who proclaim that the Tea Party was indeed either manufactured, or well fertilized by a commercial lawn service, will point out that there was one person on someone's payroll for a couple of years who traveled the country convincing people to become part of the new Tea Party movement. That would be Herman Cain. Those of us who would sit here and cluck-our-tongues and shake our head at the poor performance he delivers have to ask ourselves: Is there a crowd out there, a slice of society that we don't understand, that loves Herman? Maybe Cox has reviewed that whole scenario and decided to gamble that maybe there is a new audience, a different audience, that will do to the rating books what the Tea Party did to our political system.

The only way you find out is take a big gamble and see what happens.

I like Herman Cain and I wish he was president, but he is should not have taken Neal Boortz's spot. Herman is very smart and a real nice guy, BUT he is not an entertainer. Neal was smart, knowledgeable and he was entertaining to listen to most of the time. I didn't always agree with Neal and I would get mad and say I would never listen again but I would be back very shortly. I have been delivering mail for a long time and I would listen to WSB and to Neal most of the time but not any more. I tried to give Herman a chance but I can't listen for more than 5 minutes a day now. He is BORING. I used to love the segment with Jamie Dupree but Herman does most of the talking with that not Jamie. I sent the station manager at WSB an e-mail about the loss of viewers due to boring radio but he didn't reply back. I guess he doesn't care about the listeners. Again I love Herman and wish he was president, but he should not be 9 till noon. I hope someone at WSB takes notice because my day is boring enough as it is. Thasnk you and God Bless.

"So you were a presidential candidate, and now you're a talk show host?"
"That's correct."
"Wow. You've got to be really versatile to be a good talk show host and cover all sorts of subjects. Can you do that?"
"Sure, as long as it's about the federal guva-mint."
"OK. Any talk show training, or did you learn by experience?"
"Experience. Experience counts, you know."
"I bet you got your experience at a small mop and pop station in a small town. What little station did you work for?"
"WSB in Atlanta."
"That qualifies."

i have not listened since the first week.

Mona, you are among the majority of listeners. They are probably dropping off
by the thousands every day. Let's hope for a replacement for HC very soon.
He is by far the most annoying person on American radio today. What a
waste of air time.

Ratings not content are most important. If someone made "lower body noises" and it did well in the money demos, a lot of commercial stations would just put a big fresh air ventilation system in studio, and let it rip. IF Herman or Hannity covers the correct demos, they will be on.

The man's politics are fine, though he's too predictably in the tank for mainstream GOP even if he veers from the talking points more than Hannity. IT's his ability to be a morning talker/entertainer. Far too predictable and STOLID. His approach to his one-man-band of a show worked only slightly better when he had an evening show, but as things stand now, listening to him, I feel like I'm back in college, taking a 7AM freshman economics class from a professor a little TOO enthralled with his own voice in a room full of SLEEPING students. Almost no questions taken, a daily running monologue for the trapped captive audience. All that's missing are hearing him write on the chalkboard, and an overhead projector.

Five years ago or so, WSB had an opportunity to groom a real morning animal -- frankly, he was (is) almost a WILD MAN: Chris Krok. They let him go, he got picked up in Macon, and then moved on to Dallas, where I believe he still is, doing afternoon drive. He was easily as politically unpredictable as Boortz, and shook a LOT of entrenched root-rotten political oak trees in both Atlanta and Macon. He would easily keep WSB from turning into a morning nursing home. (So would have the late Royal Marshall, too -- though I liked his style at night better). Oh well...missed opportunities.

Fortunately, we're not trapped NOW as listeners -- we can turn the dial and BOLT. But WSB is trapping itself if it doesn't consider change.

I don't know the day parts but 6+ WSB is just had their best 6+ since Christmas including ratings periods with Boortz. I am arfaid my previous post is correct.

Cain certainly does make what passes for template GOP "lower body noises" (rather than independent thinking), but it remains to be seen over the coming months how that will translate to ratings trajectory.

BTW, Boortz subbed for Cain yesterday, along with his old crew of Belinda and Christina. Cain's producer was on too, and he sounded distinctly more animated and enthused than he ever does with Cain. The show was a tonic for the coma that that times slot has become.

I miss Neal. Enough said

When Neal is not outright telling untruths, yes, he is worth listening to. I'm no liberal by any means but if anybody doesn't think Boortz syas things he knows aren't true, for ratings sake, then I can't help you.

I heard enough Cain when he was on at night. Seems like a nice guy and I might even agree with some of his points, but dang, is he boring. Too much repetition. And as soon as I hear that terrible intro song I change the station as fast as possible.
